Most countries fazed out slavery and during the American founding it was thought the process was happening on its own without federal law. It was too expensive to have slaves Until the cotton gin made it profitable.
2nd president john Adam's was alive for the Civil War and said
"We desperately need your strength and wisdom to triumph over our fears, our prejudices, our-selves. Give us the courage to do what is right. And if it means civil war, then let it come. And when it does, may it be, finally, the last battle of the American Revolution."
You can go hours and hours digging real deep. Like the Confederate solders that went west and created the obsession with death being traitors to America that created western movies like "true grit." Then go the opposite direction and follow the daughter's amd granddaughters of Confederate solders and follow a retelling history to fine honor. Being "United Daughters of the Confederacy" organization. This goes hand and hand with jim crow laws.
It's crazy to think how few years ago the Civil war was and how few years ago the revolutionary war was from there. Helen Viola Jackson was the last widow of a civil war veteran and she passed away on December 16, 2020 at 101 in Marshfield, Missouri.
In the same way the revolutionary founding father's thought racism was going to solve itself, is no different then civil rights era is today, in the same way black lives matter will be for future Americans unfortunately.00 Reply

Democrats fought America when the US government infringed on state rights and made specific demands like ending slavery. Democrats created Jim Crow Laws to maintain separation between the races. Democrats founded the KKK. Democrats rode with the KKK to kill Black Republicans. Democrats supported Nazism during WWII. Democrats created ANTIFA and BLM that yell racist slurs in the streets and attack people for their race, steal their belongings, and murder them in Democrat sanctioned and financed terrorism. In major Democrat cities, Democrats openly attack Jews, Asians, Whites, and Hispanics in the streets. Democrats tried to repeal civil rights laws in California and are pushing for the return of segregation. Democrats are pushing Critical Race Theory which is blatantly racists. What did Republicans, oh yeah freed the slaves and passed civil rights legislation… Stop smoking crack, crackie...

For instance, anyone who voted for Trump is automatically accused of being racist. Anyone who doesn't believe in open borders is accused of being motivated by racism or xenophobia.
Many on the left are racist without knowing it. Many of them think that it's up to white people to tell black people how to raise themselves up, as if black people need advice. And many have bought into racism against "white" people thing. Plus they seem absolutely clueless about the devastation their government is causing black and brown people around the world in its efforts to dominate all the globe's resources and capital.10 Reply505 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Isn't the left calling for seggregation, affirmitive action and critical race theory? They are all for equity and not equality. They want to treat the races differently to achieve equal outcome.

+1 yI disagree entirely. White leftist believe in equity over equality. They tend to think they are just so much more superior to blacks and therefore paint them out to be helpless sheep that need handouts. They feel so righteous in it. Most republicans believe in free markets and equality. I don’t judge someone based on the color of their skin and the left tells me I shouldn’t be color blind. It’s ass backwards.

Actually we think when given the same government support that anyone else did, black people can succeed like everyone else. The problem is that they didn't.

And this is why we have to move past the "rugged individualism made America great" mythos. - +1 y
@Ad_Quid_Orator See, there you go. I never had any government support and I’m doing just fine. I retired a year ago after working 41 years. My place of employment had between 10,000 to 15,000 people during my years there. Probably around 35 to 40% black and they did just fine too without government support.
- +1 y
Did you go to a better quality public school? Did your parents own their own land giving you a source of heritable wealth. You're just trying to use an anecdote to explain away a systemic problem.
- +1 y
@Ad_Quid_Orator no. Not at all. You really can’t be this stupid.
- +1 y
And are you really so stupid that you think that you can use your anecdote to explain away a systemic problem? Even if you were able to succeed without government help that doesn't mean that everyone WILL. The fact of the matter is that even though getting less government support won't guarantee that you will fail in life, if you go to a lower quality public school and don't have a source of heritable wealth, your odds of success are lower.
- +1 y
@Ad_Quid_Orator wow. You really are that stupid. I didn’t inherit anything. I went to the same schools as everyone else in my area. Black white and others. I worked hard all my life.
- +1 y
No, you're just an imbecile. Even if you were able to be successful (although if you're white odds are you went to a better quality school) on your own merits, people who had more support are more likely to succeed.
- +1 y
@Ad_Quid_Orator Me? Imbecile? Now that’s funny coming from you. How many times do I have to tell you I simply worked hard for what I have. I don’t know why you keep bringing up “better quality school “. It was about 55/45 white/black in a medium sized city.
- +1 y
And how many times do I have to tell you that because you were able to be successful despite obstacles that you faced, that doesn't mean that it's applicable to everyone. The argument isn't that black people CAN'T succeed (that's a complete strawman) it's that it's more difficult for them to succeed because they haven't got as much support from the government as white people did dumbass.
- +1 y
@Ad_Quid_Orator You calling me a dumbass is funny. Have you looked in the mirror lately. That’s where you’ll find a real dumbass. Anyone can succeed without government support. You get support from the government then you’re less likely to try to succeed.
- +1 y
Anyone CAN succeed without government support but black people could become millionaires when Jim Crow laws were in place so that's a throw away statement on your part. The issue is that in areas where there is more investment in infrastructure and social programs, a lot more people WILL succeed (and FYI, welfare dependency is a myth). You're trying to use an individual anecdote to explain away a systemic problem and that is idiocy.

@Ad_Quid_Orator Your level of stupidity amazes me. Have a good life.

While I am an admirer of MLK Jr., he was not fully truthful in this video when he stated that the Homestead Act was denied to blacks.
That was initially true, but the situation was rectified three years later.
Many black people took advantage of it.
I hate to even use the word "black" in this response because all people are Homo Sapiens Sapiens, but the context of the subject requires me to use that distinction in order to accurately address the video's content.
The Homestead Act was in effect for 123 years.
That means there was 120 years for all eligible people to take advantage of it.
The Civil Rights Act of the 1960's outlawed discrimination based on skin color. I don't know the specifics of that act, so I can't expound upon it's content.
Please enlighten me if you can as to any rights that are still denied to any specific U. S. citizens, besides some convicted criminals.
There are many laws giving preferential treatment to blacks today, some of which I believe, are actually detrimental to the people they were intended to help.
I believe that if MLK Jr. was still here today he would be in tears to see how his dream has become distorted by many of the same people he was trying to help.
Then again, maybe if he was still here, his credo of non-violent demonstration would have continued, bringing about a more positive situation in this country.
- +1 y
@nolabels Even though some "Black People" took advantage of the homestead act, more white people (as a percent of the population benefited from it). And there were other policies like the Federal Housing Act which gave white people the means to settle in the suburbs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyiwk3D-3ag&t=22s
And while the racial aspect to these practices have been outlawed the impacts still manifest themselves in the racial disparity in home ownership and poverty rates.
If MLK was alive today he would be appalled by how we failed to see how racism adapted to the current political climate:

@Ad_Quid_Orator
I'll repeat my earlier question to you.
Are there any U. S. citizens being deprived of rights today?
I don't have a silver spoon in my mouth, but I'm not complaining about it.
So what is it you want? The stainless steel spoon that's in my mouth? I don't owe anyone anything.
As long as you see yourself as a victim, you'll be a victim. A victim of your own thinking.
I've been a victim of thinking like a victim myself.
I stopped thinking of myself as a victim, and I am a victim no longer.
How long, and what, do you think it takes to overcome adversity?
Forever, and everything, seems to be the answer I've been hearing to that question for my entire life from a certain "group" of people.
Look at how quickly many "groups" of people have gone from having nothing to being affluent in this country in a very short period of time through nothing but hard work and determination.
My family comes from one of those groups who was once discriminated against. Am I affluent? More than some, but much less than many others.
No, you'll get no sympathy from me.
If you want to see yourself, and be seen as a separate race, which is the feeling I get from your comments, that's your business.
I see everyone as equal until they start pulling the race card
.
Believe me, I've been treated extremely poorly by a number of people who view me as a different race from them. Do you think that has affected my attitude towards them? You're damned right it has.
If you want to be viewed by me as different and deserving of special treatment, I'll be happy to oblige.
It just won't be in the way you seem to be hoping for.
- +1 y
@nolabels Well, as you can see from my avatar, I'm about as white as they come; so no I don't want sympathy. And I'm not saying you were born with a Silver spoon in your mouth but because of the lasting impacts of racist policies, so many were born with a lead stick up their ass. And that's not just a metaphor, Red-lining has put African Americans in places were lead poisoning is very prevalent. In fact, Pb blood levels in excess of 5 micrograms per liter are 2.5X as common in black neighborhoods as white ones. But if you look at the 1990s (when people who were young adults now would have been impacted by it because Pb exposure as child increases the propensity to violent crime as an adult) it was more like a 4 to 1 disparity.
"How long, and what, do you think it takes to overcome adversity?"
Doing what we can to right the wrongs of the past that have a discernable impact today and not pretending that we can solve racial disparities by telling people to lift themselves up by their bootstraps. - +1 y
@Ad_Quid_Orator
I never looked at your avatar.
Your stance led me to think that you were part of the "group" being discussed in this thread. You never did declare yourself as black. I stand corrected with no shame. I'm human and flawed, as are we all.
I do believe strongly in my position, and the heat of my passion led me to a wrong conclusion.
Like I said earlier, I don't like using the word "black". I feel that every time that word is used, it propagates the problem.
I have a feeling that you won't agree with me on this statement, as well, but I've said for years that if everyone would just quit talking about color and body characteristics, the situation will go away.
A few years ago, I found out that Morgan Freeman, a man whom I have the utmost respect for, shares my stance. He gets visibly angered when asked to discuss "racial" issues. In one of the last interviews I saw with him being grilled about race, he turned on the interviewer and said something to the effect of, "How would you like it if I asked you how you felt about being a Jew?" He threw in a couple of other questions to that effect, and the interviewer clammed up.
That really is my stance.
You're entitled to yours.
This is the U. S.
We have Freedom of Speech.
I do want what is best for all. Different people have different ideas on how to go about achieving that.
Peace to you and all mankind. - +1 y
@nolabels "I have a feeling that you won't agree with me on this statement, as well, but I've said for years that if everyone would just quit talking about color and body characteristics, the situation will go away." It will eventually but most estimates put that time at 200 years in the future and for millions, that's not soon enough.

@Ad_Quid_Orator
You never have stated what it is that you want.
But let's say, heaven forbid, that things go the way I can only assume you want them to go.
I can only guess that would be special consideration for all who have ever been wronged, back to the beginning of time.
You seem to be a man who is all for fairness.
What's fair for one should be fair for all, right?
It will require that you set up a team to compile comprehensive data on everyone who has ever lived, determine the number of years and the degree to which they were treated unfairly, and by whom, then come up with a logarithm to accurately apply those percentages of unfair treatment to the succeeding generations down to the day that the project is completed, then crunch those numbers to determine who owes what to whom.
That little project should take several millennia to complete..
Or, you could ask God. I'm sure he has that information at his fingertips.
So, when that's all been done, and it's been found, most likely, that my family is listed on the short side of fair, which I imagine it will be, have your descendants leave a message here on G@G as to what my family's benefit package consists of and when my descendants will be receiving it, so we can have plans in place to donate it to a worthy cause.
I'm sure the balance of fairness will change over those thousands of years, so I wouldn't want to make a pledge to any cause here in the present that is seemingly worthy at this time, only to have my descendants discover that I've unknowingly bequeathed a gift to a group who were formerly our oppressors.
I'll leave my G@G account open after I'm gone expressly for that purpose.
Cheers.
