So, in thinking about this, I think the only thing about any of these proposals that's going to make any difference has to do with what's going to happen or not happen with the Strait of Hormuz. Whoever controls the Strait of Hormuz basically controls a huge part of the world's economy. That is more powerful than any other weapon that anybody has and certainly more usable than, say, nuclear weapons. Right now, the Iranians control the Strait of Hormuz, and they have the entire area armed.

Well tactically the USA has prevailed. Every "battle" the USA probably won. Strategically as of now it appears that Iran won since the USA did not achieve their main goals. Iran is still a threat to the nations of the gulf. The regime is still the same... different people but same regime. Iran still has the same nuclear capabilities. But add one... Iran now knows it can control the Straights of Hormuz and thus threaten the global economy. Like Vietnam overwhelming firepower enabled the USA to win every battle yet they eventually lost the war. It makes you wonder why start the war in the first place?

I suspect Iran has always known how to control the Straits of Hormuz. One look at a map should have told them that. I believe that they have fortified the surrounding areas very heavily in order to control any shipping that goes through there.

I believe that wars are always started for money or resources, and if you think about it a little bit, resources typically equal money anyway.
