California has a top-two primary system for governor. So regardless of party the top two vote getters in a primary are the governor candidates. Swalwell staying in the race would have split the vote and possibly given the Republicans a 1-2 finish.

that's not just eliminating someone, it's destroying them. If they (Dems) did that intentionally, it don't make sense. Destroying their power base is what crazy people do. They didn't do it intentionally, he fell into his own problems and mis conceptions.

Hopefully he has a "come to Jesus" moment, a flash of brilliant light zaps near him, he confesses to all sins and encombrances, corrects all false mistakes on say..."the view", washes the feet of the women... or at least polishes their heels and complements them on their nails, corrects his ways... shifts a little to the right so he makes more sense in a balanced option...

and then starts life over again...
