If you have emigrated from your country of birth, if said country offered opportunity would you have ever left and moved away?

I didn't exactly moved out of the USA... since I've been right at the border pretty much all my life in the same region, and moving across back and forth is all I know...

I currently reside more on the Mexican side, but that's just a choice I made... and that has been working quite well for me at the moment, but I'm still in the USA too, some of the time

if I ever move out elsewhere... it will not be for opportunity but choice... me wanting to experience something different

No i wouldn't.

But if a country tomorrow offered me a luxury hotel room, 3 square meals a day, weekly free money worth more than I could earn at home in a month for nothing, access to a gym, trips to museums etc, free education, free health care and bumped to the head of the line, hours of free desire time, free holiday home, free phone, free internet, free transport etc id be on the next plane and sending money for my family to join me.

I used to work in a priemer inn where two immigrants gang raped a girl, they werent even charged despite the cctv footage.

Probably not. But honestly I don't think I would go back if suddenly those opportunities were made. There are still a lot of things I dislike when I go back visiting.

Had I achieved the golf scholarship I wanted at 17/18 /19 , I'm sure I would have gone to the USA and never returned.

Australia is great and beautiful , but you can't compare in opportunity, look at every Aussie who leaves , they never come back because they all do better in the US.

I moved when I was in my early twenties. Settling in another country isn't always easy, but I somehow knew I would be alright. It wasn't a question of opportunities. I think that at the time, my new country of residence offered less opportunities than the country I was leaving behind.

It was just something I felt I needed to accomplish. I think moving enlarges your horizon and opens up many borders, not just in a literal sense.

So I left.


And the only way I go back now is for it to give me even more than I currently have

But without ever finding out how much better my 'career' and life have evolved by indeed going elsewhere.
Gives reason to wonder: what makes an opportunity an opportunity?
And: are there opportunities that reduce our range of options?

Sure, every opportunity we choose comes with opportunity costs in the form of all the other potential opportunities we passed up when we select one.
