'Truly depraved' rapist who dragged woman into woods jailed for 17 years

A rapist who had a "fascination" for forced sexual abuse has been jailed for 17 years for dragging a young woman into woods and assaulting her.

Gift Oladele, 24, carried out the attack in Wrexham last September after befriending the victim, now 19, on her way home from a night out.

Oladele was found guilty of rape and sexual assault in a Mold Crown Court trial in March.

When he carried out the attack, he was already on bail over another rape allegation in his home city of Manchester in November 2024.

He was also previously jailed in 2022 for a sexually-motivated attack and it has emerged he successfully fought against deportation to Nigeria on human rights grounds and later Home Office appeals.

The judge at the immigration tribunal in 2024 said the matter was "finely balanced", arguing the offence Oladele had committed was "very serious" and that there was "a strong public interest in deporting and excluding foreign criminals, especially one who has committed a frightening and public assault".

But the fact that Oladele would be "a complete outsider should he relocate to Nigeria" and that he had a "developed private life having grown up in the United Kingdom" outweighed the public interest in deporting him.

I'm truly at a loss here. The primary responsibility of any government is to keep its women and children safe.

The Home Office said the case was horrific and it was right the defendant had been jailed.

I'm pretty sure UK's 2026 laws result from left and right policies & political philosophies throughout time. This intricacy gives different laws and rights either coexisting or clashing together. In that case, you get a criminal convicted because one set of laws defined crimes and punishments, but not deported because another set of laws defined immigrants rights.

Also it's not that you don't understand this so called "suicidal empathy", it's that you're using this buzzword as a tribal sign to wave at whoever would share far-right opinions you may enjoy. And it's fine, I like signalling my presence to friends too.

Because here in the UK we follow the law on such things. Many laws were created decades, even centuries ago and changing them a long difficult legal process. Many are also tied to international laws.

He’s a criminal yes but he didn’t violate any border laws or engage in any form of espionage.


Foreign nationals pay just as much taxes as locals


Part of those taxes fund the prisons.


So why shouldn’t he be jailed in the UK


He’s doing 17 years which is hard time.


We can argue it’s not enough or maybe he should have gotten the death penalty.
But deportation is discrimination in this specific case

The same reasons as anywhere else.

What you're struggling to understand is that the UK provides top tier legal representation, even if its public paid.

In places like the USA, you get shit "dump truck" lawyers who are public paid. Hence why they deport and incarcerate at levels that would make North Korea blush.

The crime committed is irrelevant, as is the nationality of the person. The whole point of a defence lawyer is to keep the person out of jail and in residence.

Hence you're either being racist, or fucking stupid in hating the person, and not the legal game. The lawyer didn't defend his crime, but justified not kicking him out over it.

That is the best outcome the lawyer could have achieved, and went for it successfully.

it has nothing to do with being on the left. it's mostly EU law. the thing is that the death sentence is illegal in all EU countries. so if you're a refugee in the EU, sending you back in most situations would pretty much equal a death sentence. and thus that's mostly not legally possible to do. in situations where the individual won't be in danger in their home country, they will be sent back.
