Was Hitler really the evil dictator that people have been claiming he was?

based on what our school books told us I dont think I would ever want to defend that man in any way. however I always found it suspicious that nobody ever tried to translate what he was actually saying in his speeches. or at least tried to put subtitles as he spoked.

anyways judging by this video that I found and the only one I've come across that actually translates his speeches I now have a desire to write an entire book full of questions.

There are a lot of misconceptions about Hitler. He wasn’t technically a dictator at all. He didn’t seize power. He rose to popularity and was appointed chancellor through perfectly legal processes. Chancellor is appointed by the president. Hitler led the Nazi party and as chancellor, the German military. Because of his military might, even higher political offices failed to control him. In this way, he acted as a dictator.
Furthermore, his rise to power was organic. He didn’t seize power through violence. He spoke to the German people who felt oppressed by the post WW1 economy. They also resented the affluent people who appeared unaffected by hyperinflation and ballooning taxes. That’s how he was able to manipulate them to target Jews.
Hitler is characterized as “evil” because of the things he did and his apparent end goal. In truth, he was obviously mentally ill. The vast majority of “evil” is an expression of mental illness and/or greed, which i actually argue is also a mental illness. Beyond that, nobody is all good or all bad. We’re just afraid to acknowledge that someone who does so much obviously terrible sh*t has good qualities too. Similarly, we tend to pretend that someone we really like could possibly do something bad. Especially in the modern sociopolitical environment, where people too often decide if someone is good or bad AFTER they have decided if they like them or not. Seems to me that’s backwards.

We're all evil to some degree and he was a dictator in that he seized full power.

Coming up with this idea of cleansing the planet to have only the dominant pure race is noble in his mind. Sure, have the best of the best... ok.

It was completely flawed and so wonder where he got that idea and how did he keep it when in his own face, he saw Jesse Owens beat all of his top people. A wise person would have re thought that. Frankly, it was some others he would have had murdered if he could that ended up defeating him, including some Jewish scientists.

He clearly wasn't able to learn his flaws, and made big mistakes. His inner voice was of hatred... at minimum... which is wha the gave to the world. He was severely impacted by early life or the war and took out his vice out upon others whom suffered terrible lives most of us cannot imagine.

Whom got his sympathy? He apparently had little to give beyond his inner circles of favored people.

Anyone with near absolute power is an evil dictator. Never in the history of the world where large numbers are under the control of one person, has it be otherwise. That does not apply to families and small tribes of a few dozen individuals.

Wanting a better quality of life for your country and people at all cost is a difficult balancing act.


On the one hand, the thought is noble.
On the other hand, you end up harming anyone who isn’t a patriot like you. Or a foreign national.


Considering the political landscape of that era Hitler did a pretty good job especially early on.

Yes & No. If you actually listen to his speeches before he became Chancellor, he sounds a lot like Trump. Germany was experiencing the same sort of problems with immigration and recession then the U. S. is. His initial plan was just mass deportation. It was actually Adolph Eichmann who orchestrated the Hollucaust. In addition, Hitler built the autobahn, he wanted to reintroduce extinct native species. He made a lot of reforms in social programs. He searched for mystical artifacts. And some other things. If it weren't for the Hollucaust and WWII, he would've been a good leader. Most of that bad stuff was orchestrated by Eichmann.

He was more incompetent than anything. Brutal, crazy but not a serious authority figure. He was propped up from the start when they had to get him to put on clean clothes. 1 . the "evil" of hitler was mass murder not just how he ruled. 2. add the s. s. torture and you have tyrant and tyrany even if not a dictator. 3. probably some of his speeches were clean but the problems were his book "mein kampf" and the BAD speeches.
