Has anyone successfully stopped a data center being built nearby?

The community that I live in is fighting against having a huge Data Center complex built.
Has anyone else helped stopped a Data Center from being built.
People are having power companies threatening to take their land to build new transmission lines to supply the massive amounts of power needed for these energy hungry Data Centers!

Trying to put aside the rumors. Property owners are being threatened to have some or all of their property taken. By eminent domain if necessary, by the electric company to build better infrastructure to power these energy hungry industries. Because the on-site generators are only for backup.
I asked at an informational meeting by the Data Center Corporate. Who will loose power if we were to have a California style rolling blackouts! No good answer!

I also asked if anyone knows. When electricity demand would equal supply. Since past administrations were more concerned about shutting down electricity generation stations than building reliable ones. When asked how much electricity an average Data Center would use. The reply was 5 giga-watts. Guess we will need the Delorian from Back to the Future!

2 years ago, dozens of companies announced that they were going to be building AI data centers. Most had no idea what was involved in doing so, or how they would make money once built, but their stock prices shot up.

Most of those data centers will never be built. AI hasn't been the hugely profitable thing that people expected it to be, and building a data center is WAY more involved than just building a building. The amounts of power and water needed are huge and most places don't have the infrastructure to provide it, and even those that do are expensive. Backup generators are on an 11 year backorder right now, and you can't be a data center without backup power.

A percentage will still be built, of course - usually ones that were already underway 5 years ago. In most places, permitting begins at least 2 years before the first piece of heavy equipment arrives on site, and by that time, you aren't going to be able to stop it. You really have to stop it in the permitting stage.

the "entire" town was told to shut up and to grow up by three rich, old, fucks... and they signed 40,000 acres of land to a data center project

the community will continue to whine as much as they want... they are still going to build that thing which is going to burn and waste a lot more energy that the entire city/count or even WHOLE STATE, not unsure about the last detail

that Data Center will use twice the power used by the entire state the Utah... and it will need water to cool down the heat of the equivalent to 23 atomic bombs, every single day...

Utah does not have that kind of water... and the regulators approved it entirely anyway

as an update... the entire region of Lake Tahoe "has one year time to find a new provider of power/electricity"

the company will stop supplying energy to the population

The Data center expert that I talked to. Said that the generators would only run about a total of 10 hours per year for test purposes. The rest of the time. They will be pulling from the grid. Not to mention. People are loosing their homes. Due to the upgrades in the grids account of new construction of power lines.
