If war orders you to kill a friend on the enemy side, do you obey?

War commences. Someone you know well, like, loved life, enjoyed discussion and food and laughed... unfortunately... is on the other side. You know they aren't a bad person.

Your command from above is clear, "take out the enemy wherever they are".

They are in your sight... via surveillance drone with remote lethal device.

Do you take them out?

It isn’t war that orders anyone to do anything, it is those looking for a power struggle for their own political ambitions who tell the poor to go to war, a war to die.

If your friend and you were on the battlefield, as enemies looking down the sights you wouldn’t shoot. You know them, they know you. War is faceless, you see the opposition as killers, degenerates, scum of the Earth, and villains to the cause of freedom however once you put a face behind it, their life, ambitions, dreams, etc. you suddenly forget the government that told you they’re vile scum of the Earth, you see them as people. People of the world you share and you don’t want to die, as much as they don’t want to die and you are both just trying to survive, show your national pride.
That is how I view it. I would never end a friend in the name of political ambitions at the top.

My greater point is to be a human friend to as many as possible, at a personal level. It will make it that much more difficult to slaughter each other when ordered to. The only way forward is better humanity and engagement, personally.

if war comes to me... that means you have invaded... and if you're really my friend then you should know way better
