Keeping an open mind means you are willing to change your mind if new data makes what you believe false.

I don't think that's true at all. I think it makes someone a sane, reasonable, and intelligent person who is able to think critically, examine their own beliefs, and make adjustments and changes in accordance with what they see and hear (assuming of course, that it corresponds with the truth).
