Are police required to use lights and sirens during a vehicle pursuit?

trying to make it short, a drunk driver was fleeing and eluding which is a no no. Accident happens officer charged but cleared. They said while officer gave chase, he didn’t have lights and sirens on. Aren’t the police supposed to if they pursue someone while driving?

Technically no. Only when required. - ie. running a busy light, or to get traffic to clear way, etc etc.

But in the case you are talking about, it seems irrelevant as the other driver was drunk, and performed an illegal manoeuvre to cause the crash.

If anything, horns, sirens, and lights would likely have made him more nervous, and caused a bigger crash.

No, each jurisdiction has it's own protocols but I do not think lights and sirens during a high speed chase is a requirement.

It should be. It’s a sign either for me to pull over or make room for the officer to pass depending on situation
