Isn't a cop going 60-70mph through a 25mph residential neighborhood with no lights a bit wreckless?

I know they're allowed to speed with no lights on to get to a call and I believe it's based on their judgement on how fast they go but I'm just curious as to what you guys think. I do think they're supposed to be safe about it and I don't see anything safe about this.

I just get tired of seeing the cops do whatever they want growing up in my little city. It seems a lot worse in the last few years.

Can I talk to the police chief tomorrow about this and report the time that the incident occurred or would that be pointless since I don't have a license plate?

1. Cop cars have better suspension and other things that make them safer to drive at higher speeds than regular cars.

2. Cops have TRAINING to drive that fast, safely. However, even with that training, they do get in trouble for speeding if it is not directly to a call. They cannot just turn on their sirens and speed anytime they wish. In most departments, officers must give an account for EVERY time they turn on the siren.

3. EVEN IN PURSUIT, cops will still get in trouble if they hit anyone other than the intended target (the suspect). Cops are taught that catching a suspect is not worth putting others in danger. Before even starting a pursuit, officers call their Sergeant and the SERGEANT decides if the officer is to pursue or terminate (meaning end the chase and let them go).

There are rules officers have to follow when the occasion calls for them to go above the speed limit. They do not get a free pass.

Yes. They are fully trained drivers, and actually do get retested every couple of years to ensure they are up to scratch.
