20 dWell I'm not sure what level of destruction you're talking about. So let's start at the top and work our way down.
- Cosmic - The heat death of the universe will occur in about 10 to 100th power years. That's a 10 with 100 zeros after it. Not to worry. Humans won't cause it and humans can't stop it.
- Solar System - Someday our local star is gonna run out of fuel and go through a Red Dwarf phase that will almost certainly cook the inner solar system including Mercury, Venus, and Earth. That ain't our fault. But that's about 5 billion years in the future so, not an immediate concern.
- Planetary Processes - Asteroids, earthquakes, and volcanoes can't be blamed on humans. Yet!
- Climate Change - Here's where humans have first graduated to fucking up the entire planet by altering a process that is also affected by cycles in our local star and our planet itself. Human energy use is adding thermal energy to the equation and that primarily affects the atmosphere which indirectly affects the planet's oceans and polar ice caps. We are changing the environment on a planetary scale. Good? Bad? It depends on the species and its location. But it's gonna be different because of human's uncontrolled energy use. Once the ice caps are gone less energy from the sun will be reflected back into space thereby increasing planetary warming.
- Technology - Humans have always loved slaughtering each other on behalf of abstract concepts like magic invisible sky fairies or lines on a map. We've invested a significant portion of our time, brain power, and economic resources to developing better ways to kill each other. We discovered nuclear weapons about 75 years ago. Collectively we now have about 10,000 of them sitting around waiting for a reason to use them. Including cobalt bombs with a half life long enough that no mammal could "wait it out". We can now wipe out a large portion of our planet's life like an asteroid.
- Individual - Do humans have self destructive tendencies? Yes, almost all of us are self destructive at some point to some degree. Pride. Vanity. Ego. Jealousy. Addiction. Anger. Consciousness and self awareness comes with complexity and dangers.
Are humans potentially the agent of our own destruction? Yup. Will we ever do it? The possibility exists.

20 dJust wanna say you've been asking some great questions lately.
Humans are definitely a major part of their own destruction. I have hope that with AI, there will be lots of solutions to the issues we that we have caused though.
But yes... I think we are.

u 19 dMost people cause most of their own miseries.

People have been killing each other in wars forever. But now we have the ability to wipe out billions and go back to the stone age with nuclear weapons.
Even non-nuclear weapons now have the ability to destroy large cities and wipe out entire civilizations.
We develop horrendous chemical and direct energy weapons.
We actively develop biological weapons that can create pandemics.
We poison our air, water, soil, environment, and food supplies.
We are responsible for the destruction of ecosystems, habitat loss and mass extinctions that have resonating consequences for our own survival.
We have been convinced by the allopathic medical/pharma industry that being injected with God knows what is good for us.
Technocrats and eugenicists want to decrease the human population by billions.
There are always those who want to rule the world and treat the population like factory farm animals to be used and disposed of as they see fit.10 Reply- 900 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
m 18 dUsing superior forces, I disagree.
Seen from our progenitor's point of view, be it Mother nature or all mighty Gods, then we're just kids. Kids don't cause their own destruction, because they aren't able to see the big picture adult normally see. So it wouldn't be fair to blame them.
What seems more fair is to challenge what forces above us did. They are responsible for this planet wide social experiment. And I can tell this experiment isn't conducted with clear ethics in mind.
10 Reply 913 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. We live in a world made by humans for humans.
While animals in the wild have to contend with other larger animals looking to eat them, we donโt.
Yet weโre every bit in danger.
And most of our common causes of death are things that are a direct result of human innovation.
So yes, we are the cause of our own destruction10 Reply
Anonymous(45 Plus)19 dDepends on your definition of destruction. We're mortal so we have no control over that. Death is inevitible. But humans are short sighted. Knowing death is certain and could always be imminent we don't think much beyond the human life span. There is little point to, unless you have kids. And even then are you going to think about their potential kids? And their kids, kids? F*** no!😆
10 Reply12.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. LOL, that's just stupid and banal.
Natural disasters and pandemics kill a lot more humans than humans do. There is little that can be done about that destruction.
