Is the DOJ probe into Gavin Newsom’s circle legit or a political hit job?

Recently, news has surfaced regarding multiple U. S. Department of Justice (DOJ) criminal investigations into individuals close to California Governor Gavin Newsom, including his wife's nonprofit organizations and taxes. There are differing interpretations of why this is occurring now and what the underlying facts are.
On one hand, Governor Newsom has publicly accused President Trump of weaponizing the DOJ to target him personally in order to damage his potential 2028 presidential campaign. On the other hand, federal law enforcement sources state that the investigations are being run locally out of Sacramento, were initiated by whistleblower tips, and are not being directed by Washington leadership.
The goal of this poll is to gauge public opinion on whether these developments appear to be a standard application of legal oversight or if they are viewed as being influenced by broader political motivations.

Personally, Newsom is completely full of shit for playing the victim card here. He is trying to spin a legitimate local investigation into a grand political conspiracy just to build his 2028 resume. Yes, Washington will absolutely use this politically to hammer him—politics is a contact sport. But the hard facts are that these tax and fraud probes started in California from local whistleblower complaints, not from Trump's desk. He’s using Trump as a convenient boogeyman to dodge accountability for what his inner circle actually did.

Gavin Newsom claims he is under investigation, blames Trump -

It’s a legitimate investigation into financial misconduct.
It’s a politically motivated attack by the administration.
It is likely a mix of both facts and politics.
