If you were standing on a sidewalk outside a restaurant and you saw a man and a woman arguing, and the man began hitting the woman, what, if anything, would you do?

I would do absolutely nothing except walk on by. It's her problem, not mine, and I am under no obligation to risk my life and limb to deend some woman who wouldn't appreciate it anyway. That big, strong, tough woman who doesn't need a man can just defend herself.

Okay- very early one morning I was walking downtown. I was walking behind a very well dressed blonde woman and a guy dressed in work clothes. She was yelling at him calling him every name she could think of. After a while I realized that he was probably going to start smacking her. I started thinking about what I was going to do. I decided that I would let him hit her once before I stopped him. I figure she had it coming.
As we came to an intersection the woman turned around and she was a news anchor at a local TV station. The guy evidently worked for her.

I would call the police or let the restaurant staff know, just like if it were 2 men fighting. I'm surprised by how poorly so many of the answerers were raised, but I guess I shouldn't be. Just another example of why we don't like yankees messing up our southern states with their bad personalities.

Nobody is obliged to physically intervene but it's still public disturbance. Would call the cops or nearby authority to come clean the mess up (regardless of gender, could be vice-versa).

If I were getting my ass kicked, and that has happened a few times, I can take care of myself, and it's my responsibility to fight back or run. It's not reasonable to depend on other people to risk themselves to help me out. I would feel very bad if someone were trying to help me and got hurt badly in the process.
