No, and neither did the majority of native Americans.
Most native tribes didn’t practice ownership in the way Europeans and Asians did. Consider the colonizers’ explanation of “Indian giving”. Property is not owned exclusively. Everything is community based. They didn’t claim to own the land. The land was meant for everyone to occupy and use, as needed. When the natives said “You are welcome to this land”, the colonizers took that in their understanding to mean that they owned everything. The territorial tribes that fought back were destroyed and the remaining tribes just conceded.
Now, even “community” land is still technically owned by the US government and managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM 😂😂) and the National Parks Service. Because we not only believe that everything must have an owner, but we condone a tiny minority of people and organizations owning and controlling the vast majority of everything. There is no legitimate shortage of anything. It’s just that the people who own and control resources are permitted to feign rarity in order to artificially inflate prices. YAY CAPITALISM!!!
