I've dealt with some of the most noted trolls on this site and haven't blocked any. If I don't want to banter with them I just ignore the question, however a good number of this sites sissy boy trolls have blocked me. I just chuckle as more likely than not those are 100% TROLL and block because they have no defense for their argument or position on something.
Anybody who would take this site seriously in the first place has a really low level of education as it is full of freaks, geeks, liars and those just here to agitate others. Take this place for what it is, laugh and move on.
When I first started using GAG, I would get some v. rude replies and each time, I would block the person who wrote it. I wasn’t mad at them and I don’t hate them, I just didn’t think it was a good use of time to deal w them. I probably blocked something like 5 to 10 people. Since then I almost never get rude replies. I wonder sometimes if it might just be literally 5-10 rude people and once you block them, the problem is gone? Or it might be something else like maybe the topic areas I posted in then were different or something. JMO!
u I get along very well with many people who rarely agree with me on social and political issues, but I block those who call me names or get a condescending attitude when I disagree with them.

Different opinions are fine as long as the person is reasonably intelligent and their arguments are rooted in reality.
The people I block immediately every time I see one here are the MAGA cult members and Evangelical Christian trolls who are knowingly spreading lies and propaganda with a political agenda. These people are trash. Isolate them. Keep them boxed into their own little echo chamber in a corner of GAG where they can give each other a thumbs up but the rest of us will never see their mentally unstable bullshit.
I never block anybody for disagreeing with me or just having a different opinion, that's just weakness. You don't know how to handle your world if that's your go-to for everything you don't like. Disagreement and different ideas are just a part of life.
Only time I ever block anybody is for showing me direct assault or racism, or constantly stalking my posts just to harass me, and even these are pretty rare. I usually give them one or two more chances before I hit Block. Other than that there is no need to do it.
I don’t expect to agree with everyone’s opinion , opinions are like arseholes , we all got em and some clearly are full of sh** . Either we say nothing which doesn’t help or attempt to understand , reason or educate them or ourselves.
Where I do have a problem is “user accounts” usually anonymous , making broad generalised, uneducated , statements or claims based on nothing but how they feel or what they see in their myopic view of the world rather than trying to understand another’s perspective. Do those things in here without the ability or evidence to backup why you see things the way you do or without an ounce of maturity , humility , accountability or basic respect for your fellow human / user then expect to get challenged.
Refusing to accept that people because of their life experience , gender , colour or creed can have an opposing view or opinion is basically ignorance but neither opinions or feelings need to be based on fact.
That's what life is all about just because we think something or let me say it like this for me just because I think something or feel something or know something it doesn't mean that I'm right and if people want to tell me their answer well it doesn't mean that they're right either but I'm not going to block them because they have an opinion even if they get loud and belligerent I don't block them I could care less
But what I don't like is somebody sending me a message and just cussing me out telling me how it is and then I go to reply and I can't because I'm blocked I think that's pussy whipped I think that's just being 5 years old but now I have never blocked anybody won't ever block anybody not a big deal to me
I rather challenge myself to be able to hold a mature conversation with them so we can get into common terms and see where we can agree.

For those liars and manipulators who have been clearly exposed, I simply don't watch them at all. My way of blocking them simply is never listening to them. Otherwise, I don't block anyone except someone who is invasive and wouldn't stop by other means.
Never have. I block trolls and spammers instantly. Otherwise, you have to demonstrate willful ignorance and bad faith arguments repeatedly before i block you. I even offer warnings to users who have previously proven to be respectful and mindful. Some people just get sucked into their bias and hypocrisy, and i refuse to suffer that from anyone.

But whenever they just resort to personal insults and attacks as a substitute for having an original thought, I double down and let them know exactly how they are a waste of oxygen

I rarely block someone. Everyone is entitled to state their opinion, whether I agree with it or not. The few people I have blocked (and I later unblocked everyone) were overly rude and violated GaG's terms and general societal norms.
Whenever I feel doing so is correct, I can't really explain every situation to why but I know when its best to block someone. I have plenty I disagree with that I've never blocked, because I in fact probably disagree with most people so if we based on that I'd have a lot more blocked.
Also I would block idiots who think its somehow a bad idea to block if it was simply based on me disagreeing.
I'm not Alpha and Omega and I accept different opinions. What I don't accept are invectives.
I think, when I cause such negative emotion that other person insults me, it's better just to block them. They don't see my opinions and I don't see theirs. It's a win win situation.
It takes a bit for me to block someone. If they start calling me names, then I boot them off to my block list. Even then, occasionally I will unblock a bunch of people for a 2nd chance. Sadly, a lot of cretins in here get back on my shit list.
I am a generation that grew up before web moderation so my limits are rather broad.
I'd guesstimate I've maybe block a half dozen users because of their opinions or interactions with me.
Most of my blocked users are simply those who spam low quality questions (by my own determination) and is done to simplify my own user experience when scanning through questions; no hard feelings.
If they use foul language or play the man , rather than just disagree , and then they keep going = maybe.
Too many people block bcoz they don't like facing the truth / facts , that's just childish and stupid.
Obviously never been in debate club , if just attack the individual, you are holding a mirror to yourself.
I don't care if someone disagrees. Disagreements are fine as long as there's still respect. If someone is rude though... that's another story. I might tolerate them once or twice, but if they continue, I block.
Having a different opinion isn't a bad thing for me, I think it's nice to see others perspectives in life however I draw a line when they start attacking others because of it. It's like they think the entire world must revolve around their beliefs 😭
I prefer to block as little as possible. However, blocking works differently on other platforms. You can still see and reply to posts and comments made by the user you blocked but that user cannot respond, which I like to call a drive-by ragebait. Only then will I block because there is no point in hearing them out if you can't reply.
I block people that think they live in a totally different reality than our own. i will not allow them to spread their bs on my questions. if we have a disagreement on things but still fundamentally beleive in reality then thats cool i can respect you and will not block you.
thats the difference. so a huge amount of incels and magas fall under the 'i live in a different reality' crowd and i block them immediately.

I don’t remember ever interacting with these people. Maybe they saw I had an opinion they don’t like or something, don’t kknow and don’t care I just need them to get out of my question list. I don’t know why this site doesn’t let you know you can’t reply to a question before you typed everything out and trying to post it.

We all know we do. Nobody cuts of a libertarian or a conservative. The only cunts are liberals. That's why they are always miserable.

I hardly ever block people unless they block me first.
It takes a lot for me to block someone. Like weeks on their insisting they're right about something that's objectively wrong (not just opinion, but physics or maths says they're wrong). I currently have four people blocked.
Never over mere disagreements. I only block people who are exceptionally rude, vile and/or endlessly argumentative.
I only block egregiously ignorant people, outright idiots, or particularly racist pigs. Different opinions are welcome, but if they're based on nothing, or hateful emotions, or lies, ignorance and just plain stupidity, I want nothing to do with them or you.
Oh i could care less who has a differing opinion. As long as they don't try to force it on me. I'll listen to dissenting views and if you can convince me.👍 i'm an open minded guy. But once my mind is made up, it's made up. I'll just say, we'll have to agree to disagree with that. Even then i still won't block them if they get a little belligerent. I've had multiple rather animated disagreements with people on this site, and while some of them have blocked me I have yet to block one single, solitary soul.
Just because someone disagrees with an opinion that you shared that does not mean that you need to block them unless they are being offensive or they are trying to push off out ideas onto you.

I have only blocked a few people who were rude or got very very mean when we discussed politics. I'm an independent but some of the MAGA people on here are downright mean if you do not agree with them.
Rarely I think I only blocked 1,2 or 3 people. A kid who kept contradicting argumentative … so I told him I blocked him.

I'm not someone who has a different opinion from mine. I sometimes learn something from that. . What I DO mind is when they call me names because I don't agree with them, in which case I block them.
