Let’s face facts. Some traditional behavior is cherished by the majority, and some of it is obviously self destructive. There seems to be a pretty clear line in the sand. Interestingly, it appears to be drawn directly between the sexes.
So let’s get to the bottom of it.
In a PERFECT world. Which traditional roles and behaviors are best for society at large, and which should be entirely abandoned for the betterment of society at large?

Okay, so everyone seems to agree that all gender roles and traditions should be abandoned. Yet literally every male tradition is upheld throughout all of western civilization. Why?
Do we want true equality, or do we demand selective “equality”?

I can't name a single one that seems worth keeping. Abandoning it doesn't mean you can't choose it of your own, it just means you are not expected to do it because of the gender role.

Okay, i think i’m with you. Himbo is to homemaker as stay at home dad is to stay at home mom.
But the same question arises. Since “homemaker” is completely ungendered, why is “himbo” necessary, unless it’s deliberately pejorative, like “bimbo”?

Women are never going to demand equal pay for equal work. Therefore, eliminating men’s need for women to reproduce would not eliminate the financial demands on men for the benefit of women. We’re on our way to the man tax right now. It’s been proposed and sponsored multiple times.
Even avoiding marriage isn’t working. Several US states are enforcing old common law marriage statutes again and there’s no reason to expect that the US won’t follow UK’s example and start awarding palimony to women who literally never even had a romantic or sexual relationship with a former male roommate, but make him pay regardless.
There is absolutely no form of western government under which men are free from the demands of women.

I'm with some of the other women here. There shouldn't be any gender roles expected or required. Do away with them all. If you want to live by some, then fine, but don't make it an expectation for others to follow unless they choose to.

However, you don’t think there’s any evidence to support the idea that certain gender roles should be enforced?

Because they never should have been a thing in the first place. Everyone should have a choice on what they wish to do and how to live their life.

Guys don't want to work and be supported by women? Hey if she's OK with supporting him, then go for it. He doesn't want to pay for the first date or hold open doors? Cool.

I think the reason is that too many people still fall back on tradition rather than pave their own path. It's easier for them than actually thinking for themselves. in my opinion it's lazy. For those who want it for themselves, that's great, but again it should never be forced.

As for why male roles particularly don't change, I think it's a mix of being scared to lose "machismo" with other guys for not "manning up". I think there are some women who are just as guilty in expecting it from guys. It truly isn't fair to guys to have those expectations thrust upon them.

You suggested that “everyone” should be allowed to make their own decisions, BUT a man has to rely upon his female significant other for approval to be a homemaker or stay at home dad. Interestingly, you did not make similar qualifications for women.
So even you believe men should be held to traditional UNLESS their women provide acceptance and support, but women should get the final say either way.

If you need it spelled out for you, then a man shouldn't have to support a woman who wants to stay at home unless he wants that arrangement. Basically consent is key and if works both ways.
