i recall learning about the civil war in 4th grade. i argued with the terrible teacher that she was not explaining the two sides and other vague things.
slave trade means buying. but who sold the slaves to the southerners? the school study book did not say. she refused to say.
about war: we know what north said. "why don't you say what southerner said?
'because there is no justification for slavery'
"i know they are bad but what did the bad guys say when they started the civil war' the terrible teecher kept repeating "no justification".
finally exasperated she lied they said 'you should not have forced yor slavery law on us'. well turns out- that was not really the order.
what did you discover as an adult that they misled you about civil war story?

the timeline:
November 1860 Lincoln -r won in November 1860. democrats 'fear mongered he is gonna take away our rights! sounds like democrats in 2016' same democrats!
lincoln got 1.9 million votes and 180 electoral (electrical). more of each type than each of the other main candidates.
his 180 was more than all 3 combined.
December 1860 - immediately in 1860! south carolina seceded because 'keeping slaves is more important. very important'. but no law yet until 1862!
did lincoln want to 'save the union'? hell no! he did not invade south carolina when they seceded in 1860!
for 2 months 6 other states rebelled total 7. until a gun shot in April 1861. both sides said 'he started it' he fired at us first.
after shooting started: 4 more rebelled.
who did fort sumter shoot at? i won't repeat the lie i heard. what did they tell you? about who they shot at whom?

In fact, history is often told to us in a wrong or false way, and I'm realizing this quite clearly now. Nowadays, the narrative constantly focuses on the Nazis as murderers, and films are made only about the genocides experienced by Jews, but there's never any mention of European states exploiting Africa. Belgium massacred and exploited nearly a million Africans, yet we were always told that Europe is civilized. What I mean is, maybe even the history we've been told is a lie. I don't know what to trust and what not to trust anymore.
@Jewelmyth there are also no movies that I know about that show the Islamic conquests. Yet, plenty about the Crusades, and usually ignoring that they were defensive. 🤔
@FrodoSkywalker007 In fact, Muslims and Turks conquered many places; even when Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror captured Istanbul, he treated Orthodox Christians tolerantly. He allowed them to practice their religions as they wished. Let me give you another piece of information: when the Ottoman Empire began to disintegrate, he issued a reform decree for foreigners. So he treated Turks and foreigners equally, and even some minorities had more privileges than Turks; you can read about it if you want. Of course, there have always been bad people in the world, regardless of religion, language, or race, but the only thing that bothers me is that governments have altered history to suit their own interests.
Certainly. Many Western leaders have done the same. None the less, we seem to gloss over the Islamic conquests.
I'm regards to the Ottoman Empire, as far as I know, the government of Turkey still denies the Armenian genocide 🤔
But yes, history is often altered. Not always in the ways you think.
@FrodoSkywalker007 I don't have clear information about the Armenian genocide; perhaps this genocide was real, but it was the Armenians who invaded our country. I don't like or defend every Muslim person. Because the Arabs made a secret agreement with the British during World War I and blinded 15,000 Turkish soldiers; this is known as the Seydi BeÅŸir incident. I don't really like the world today anymore. Neither Muslims nor people of other religions are good; everything seems to be getting worse. Your historical talk made me feel better. I was studying Turkish and world history for my exam, and I've been doing it for about a month now. My knowledge has been refreshed.
It is certainly a far more complicated world.
I'd say plenty of good people still exist.
My expertise is American history, and sadly my country is more divided than at any point since the Civil War.
It's bad enough that people can't agree on issue they agree simply because of weird political or social expectations.
