Would social democracy or democratic socialism work better for the US?

Social democracy and democratic socialism have historical overlap, but they are not identical as defined in this poll.

Social democracy preserves a predominantly capitalist economy and private ownership while using democratic government, regulation, labor protections, public services, taxation, and a substantial social safety net. Oxford describes social-democratic capitalism as combining political democracy and capitalism with education, welfare programs, employment-supporting services, and market regulation.

Democratic socialism retains political democracy but seeks a larger transfer of economic ownership and control toward public, worker-owned, cooperative, or other collective institutions. The DSA explicitly says its vision goes further than historic social democracy and that capitalism should ultimately be replaced by democratic socialism.

Supporters of social democracy argue that it can preserve market competition while providing stronger social protections. Supporters of democratic socialism argue that political democracy is incomplete without greater democratic control of economic power.

Which system would be better for the United States?

Between those two social democracy for sure.

My country generally has a reasonable balance but our taxes are way to high.

If I had to design a society there would be no tax on products. A lot of public infrastructure would be funded through crowd funding and then whatever you crowd fund can get you tax benefits. Helps society organize what is important organically. You do have a tax for things like emergency services, healthcare, garbage collection, defense, etc. But i'd want this to be based on a percentage of income so it scales with how much income someone has. For people who make their income trading you do then tax that as income but otherwise I want a very open market where the average person isn't triple taxed.

This idea has some interesting effects because then people from neighboring countries will want to shop in your one since the products are cheaper. That boosts the sales of our country and then that means there is money coming in the country. The rich people will like the predictability so they will stay and spend. When they spend its income for someone else and gets taxed that way.

Does mean in my society the regular taxes would be significantly higher to compensate but it gives a lot of transparency, predictability and encourages spending your money which ultimately means there are more moments we get income tax and more consumer confidence.

As far as market regulation goes ideally i'd ban stocks completely. I think the whole shareholder venture captial kinda stuff is the root of a lot of evil and i'd ideally just abolish it. Not feasible of course but were talking ideal societies here. But instead of regulating the economy i'd focus on making the economy transparent. In my society the price it cost to obtain the good should be listed next to the sales price. If a store suddenly made stuff 10% more expensive but their buyin price didn't go up 10% people would instantly know. There would not be an excuse. And this would happen on every part of the supply chain. It means you can up your prices all you want but its up to you to justify it to the buyer rather than blaming a third party.

Stuff like that is where I lean politically. Oh and direct democracy with my own system. I thought that one through a lot but ill spare an equally lengthy section on how the multiple voting rounds emulate how congress works haha.

I recently watched a documentary on life in the Soviet Union, and having Democratic Socialism in the US would be INCREDIBLE!

Both of them suck but social democracy is the better of the two.

@canamlusciouslad73 “America will implode by 2040” is an extraordinary prediction, but you have not explained what “implosion” means, why 2040 is the deadline, or how abolishing capitalism would prevent it.

The DSA explicitly says capitalism must be replaced and that its vision goes beyond historic social democracy. Its current program also calls for a new political system, a new constitution, and a democratic-socialist republic. I see that sweeping transformation as a threat to America’s economic and constitutional stability—not its only salvation. Between the two choices in this poll, social democracy would be less dangerous because it retains a predominantly capitalist economy rather than seeking to abolish it.
