To anyone who made a massive amount of money very quickly: What is something you thought rich people did that turned out to be completely fake?

It had nothing to do with me making money. It was the insight I was exposed to when I started hanging around with people who grew up in multi-generational wealth, 4th generation trust fund babies, trophy wives, and kids who are basically left to raise themselves because mommy and daddy are coked up and fucking the pool boy and the nanny. It's a sick twisted world of depressed people living on booze, drugs, therapists and buying addiction fucking around to get themselves through another day. Values and morality are expendable commodities.

I am so grateful that I grew up blue collar and didn't come into wealth until later in life when my personality, work ethic, and other values had already been formed. I have pretty much divorced myself from that world at this point. I confine my interactions with those people to business deals and brutally limit any social interactions. It's actually depressing to watch it all happening around you. And that is the "Something rich people do that I never understood", until I saw it firsthand.

Depends on what you consider a lot of money and quickly. I came from nothing and have over a period of years came into more money than I would have thought. I haven’t changed much though.

Everyone is different. Some want big houses, some want expensive boats, cars and toys. I kept my house which was very nice but added a second home in a vacation area. I had 4 Mercedes and a BMW but I bought most of them a couple years old to save on the massive loss when driven out of the dealer. My current car I bought last year but it is this year’s model. I paid cash, just like my second home which has now become my only home.

I thought rich people bought things outright but I think many tend to get loans and mortgages from what I can tell. I prefer cash. I think the logic is twofold, I can buy more stuff if I get loans and my money will still make money being invested while I get tax write offs on such things as mortgages.

But some spend everything and go into debt, some save and invest (me) and some have no clue.

One thing that now surprises me about me, is I have given myself an amount of money per week/month/year which is a lot for me. The rest I invest in the market and it grows by 6 figures a year. But I notice I buy a lot of items for $2,000 to $3,000 and simply don’t use them. I just don’t bother to use them like I thought I would.
