"Kiss my a**" said Ontario prime minister Doug Ford to trump today. Carney has promised "dollar for dollar" retaliatory measures and basically said "enough is enough". As a proud Quebecois, I have never been really proud to be Canadian... until today.

For some time now, delegates from both Canada and the US were negotiating to replace the USMCA, which trump hated, even though it was trump's stupid idea in the first place. USMCA replaced the long standing NAFTA back in 2020, a free trade treaty that had been serving both countries' economies since 1994.

From what we can gather, trump (via his henchmen) was asking for unreasonable, stupid things and of course he wasn't backing down because he's a deluded moron who thinks he can make any deal come true.

Recently, during the negociations, trump whined to the media about the fact that Canada had been boycotting American alcohol since early 2025 (all because of him and his stupid tarriffs), so he threatened Canada with 50% tarriffs on dumb stuff such as hockey sticks, amongst others.

But here are the results, so far:

The decline in Canadian tourism within the US translates to an estimated $3+ billion economic hit for U. S. border communities, sunbelt vacation spots (such as Florida, California, and Las Vegas), and airline routes, forcing carriers to trim flight capacity.

U. S. wine exports to Canada dropped by nearly 78% (a loss of over $350 million USD), taking Canada from the top international market for U. S. wine to a minor importer. U. S. spirits and bourbon exports experienced a similar 60% to 66% drop, which translate to an estimated $1 billion USD loss. Wineries in California, Washington, and Oregon, alongside American distillers, reported massive revenue cuts, prompting U. S. lawmakers to publicly lobby for the removal of provincial sales bans.

It's just too bad the red states aren't affected but they have nothing to offer.

The world is watching and if the US is willing to end over a century of intertwined commerce with a close friend and neighbor, than they'll screw over anyone.
