The irony is that the US already spends more per person on healthcare than all those other countries with universal healthcare. It's not that they can't afford it, Republicans are the ones blocking it and they'd rather continue wasting money than allocate the money they already spend to make healthcare affordable for everyone.

It cuts off a VERY, very major portion of their grift, and the billionaires and corporations behind them will never stand for it. Try and grasp these numbers:

* From 2001 to 2022, Health care companies allocated 95% of their net income to shareholder payouts, amounting to $2.6 trillion.

That means the remaining 5% went to cover both administration AND payments for actual coverage of policy holders.

This is an astounding fact that very few Americans know, or even want to believe, along with the number of people who died because they were denied coverage.

So the next time some mf***ing Republican tells you that Universal Health Care is socialist or communist or anti-capitalist and un-American, and that there's "not enough money" to make it work... tell them to go f**k themselves.

There's MORE than enough money to make it work, and there always was. The GOP just prefers giving it to billionaires, who in turn, give it back to them.

Administrative and payout costs came before the net income number. The 5% remaining profit is allocated differently by each company. Given that, 95% to investors versus some form of credit to policy seems excessive to me, though apparently, that's common in the industry.

The numbers reflecting admin costs and coverages as a percentage of gross income are subject to both state and federal minimums on services and quality assurance. Obviously, the more rejections beyond the required minimums, the greater the net profit.

They aren't the only ones against it. They're the only ones you here about. Why? because it doesn't work. waiting months for a simple doctors appointment at the Veterans Hospital is piss poor healthcare.

Canada has such a back log of appointments they resort to just allowing people to kill themselves to lesson the demand on hospitals.

there is also a theory out there, that it's the same reason Europe doesn't use Air Conditioners in homes. They have 150,000 people die of heat related issues every year. mostly elderly.

Typical to use Canada as an example since they are in the bottom 3 for wait times on elective and specialist visits. Then you spike it with bullshit about "allowing people to kill themselves" to blah, blah, whatever. Total horseshit. I have several friends who are nurses AND doctors in different Canadian provinces including BC, Ontario and Nova Scotia. I get info from the source, and you're spouting bullshit.

Universal healthcare works just fine in many countries around the world, and though it's not a perfect system, it certainly has better outcomes than the US system. As another poster pointed out, the US is #1 in health care spending and expense per capita with the WORST health outcome per dollars spent, especially in the areas of maternal and infant deaths.

What the US does best is HIGHLY specialized care and surgery... for those who can afford it.
What the US does worst is affordable, preventative care and proper health education, even if you CAN afford it. The ACA helped somewhat with that, but it was only a beginning. The Repubes have no interest in making that work, nor do they have a replacement of any kind.

@yulbsari Most people who comment on health care in the US don't really understand how it works except for how it directly affects them individually. They call single payer systems "socialist" and they don't even know what it is. They pick Canada, which admittedly has issues with specialist and elective appointments, but they never cite places like Switzerland or especially New Zealand, which has absolutely amazing health care for its citizens and nowhere near the wait time issues of Canada. It's like talking to people who know nothing about engines but think they know how to fix your car.

Because the USA has basically been paying for the worlds slush funds. We fund European culture and then they complain and say we have none. European museums, their way of life, EU/NATO, we fund it all. ETC... and whatever else you can think of, guess what we funded that as well or them. But we have nothing in invest back into our own country. Majority of peoples finances towards the end of their lives goes towards healthcare. Health care system treats the client as an ATM machine never healing, or curing anyone because they need repeat clients. Every major industry is corrupt in the point that they teach all of the incorrect information, and then people get trained and certified to regurgitate the same bs. Not even focusing on the other systems like education that also taught them incorrectly. So many cures will eventually come out and a new medical system needs to get established for that people will become their own Doctors and in effect making that industry humbled.

You'd be surprised how many people working in hospitals are in covens, etc... Other countries have always been invested in trying to end the "American Experiment." The time will come when you will see Government officials, former politicians, healthcare workers, insurance ceos, big pharma get perp walked. Prob sent to military tribunals, etc... Goal is not to freak out getting pissed off if it means seeing who you normally thought wasn't bad. Will take a lot of restrain and self control. The only reason insurance companies are able to leverage coverage is because certain people think monopolizing it is gonna control it. The compromise we have to come to is giving insurance companies leverage. Conservatives want a free market where supply and demand dictate rates. Liberals want a monopolized market that centralizes power. Centralized power is corrupt.
