If your poll results were broken down by age group, I suspect that the younger people strongly support this idea, because they like "free" stuff, and they pay minimal taxes, while older people would strongly oppose it, because they are the ones who must pay for the "free" stuff.

We've just seen exactly what would happen if we gave the government that level of control over our medical decisions. They'd be able to say whether you got to have that abortion or not, and whether you'd be forced to take the untested "vaccine" or not.

The only reason the idea isn't dead as a doornail is that nobody's paying attention.

If someone else must make medical decisions for you, wouldn’t you rather it be with people you at least have some recourse with? Politicians can be voted out. And people watch politicians, keeping an eye on the things the do and the things they support.
Insurance executives, not so much. You think trading in one insurance company for another is a solution? That might work when you’re well. Might not work so well when your sick.

Even if CDC officials WERE elected (they aren't), you'd have to wait until the right time within the right year, THEN wait for them to take office, THEN wait for them to make changes, and hope they were positive.

Yes, and it would come from a sin tax. But most of healthcare now goes to hypochondriacs. And the people in charge of triage, should have working brains. I was in a bad car accident, and the girl at the ER that went ahead of me, had a blister on her toe.

There is no way to make it work. You're looking at 6 month to 1 year or more waits for necessary tests and procedures. The wealthy people in countries that have it come to the U. S. for medical care.

Not true. I got a flesh eating parasite while traveling through Central America. I got care for free, quickly (in Nicaragua), that would have cost me tens of thousands in the US.

Done correctly - yes, but we need to find a way to reign in costs. US spends 4T$/year on healthcare - and yet doesn't have particularly good care.

I think there are possibly ways to make it work, but its too long a discussion for social media. Its an extremely difficult problem
