Formal education and degrees and such. It's not ALL complete bullshit. There's definitely a certain value in the credentials and I take every opportunity I get to encourage people to be lifelong learners. But, the cost-benefit ratio is awful and people wildly overstate the doors it will open for you.

Isn’t propaganda a b*tch? It’s mostly the memory of social classes that perpetuates this nonsense. There are well over a half million jobs in the USA that need to be filled by skilled trades immediately, about a third of which start in the low six figures. The vast majority of them are well into six figures once fully qualified, and opportunities for overtime are mostly limited by safety standards.
Yet NOBODY is even applying. Why? Because “go to college to get rich quick and rule the world” was the only game in town for decades and the vast majority of people seem to think that difficult and dirty jobs belong to low class people.
Meanwhile, i earn two to three times what most of my relatives and friends with college degrees earn, and i’m not begging the government to force everyone else to pay off my student loans!
A teensy bit of critical thinking and a modicum of research go a long way. But we don’t teach that anymore.

@Chazmatazz269 It certainly is a bitch! I graduated high school in 2011, took a year off and then finished my undergrad in 2016. I would say that an easy 2/3 of the people I went to college with simply shouldn't have been there. it was probably even more than that, honestly.

It was a combination of people who simply didn't have the right mind/discipline/work ethic for college, people who weren't pursuing jobs that actually required the education, and people who were in college to find themselves.

When the degrees cost as much as they do, there had better be a really direct and clear line between earning the degree and making the money.
