Have socially awkward women always existed, or is this a new trend?

There is a female user here that actually admitted to being within the spectrum. For many years, we were used to hearing about either shy or socially awkward guys that have a hard time forming conversation, making friends, going out on dates, etc. Social awkwardness was like a men's issue but lately a couple women have been coming forward and admitting to also having issues socializing with others, that it doesn't come out naturally for them.

Is that a new trend by now? Social awkwardness in women too? Or not?

Yes, it's a new trend. It used to affect mainly men
Nope, the numbers always were the same, not new

Well during my school and college years, I've always seen women generally socializing good and a couple men struggling. Most of the times it used to affect the man, rarely the woman.
