Why do other women stare at other women in public?

Well for me it’s typically cause I think they’re pretty or something about them is eye catching (maybe their makeup or clothes). I try not to stare though, just some glances at them. Ofc there are times where I think an outfit is ugly or other stuff but in those scenarios it’s not that deep, it’s a passing thought and I don’t rlly glance at them more than once or twice. But honestly I just mostly look at people I think are pretty, I tell my friends sometimes if I realize I’m staring at their face too much that I keep staring cause I think they’re pretty (or their eyebrows/eyeliner, etc is rlly nice)
in general for other people, you never know, but I do think most girls also stare if they think the girl is pretty. I don’t rlly think it’s commonly anything like jealousy though. I say just try your best to not pay too much attention to others. If they are staring because of judgy mean girl shit, don’t let it bother you because honestly they’re fucking weird for that 🥴 like why would you hate on someone you don’t know, just don’t be a bitch.
It's for those reasons, and also because they want to size you up and see how they can compete, or if they can get ideas from the way you look and try to use them themselves.
But from a guy's perspective, women stare at us too, they just try not to seem like it. Women are more visual than men and love observing or studying other people, for whatever reason. I think they like trying to see if they can figure someone out by how they look or how they dress, or looking for something to judge them on.
Genetic pressure to see each other as competition. Even if you're both single, the drive is there.
This is also one of the reasons it must suck to be a lesbian. If you're a man, and you see another guy checking you out (note: not sizing you up; they look pretty similar from the outside, but they are VERY different things), it's a safe bet he's gay. But women check each other out all the time.
