A lot of times it is known for a lot of people in their early 20s and before that be kind of shy compared to when they get older, but in recent times I have noticed it has gotten to an exaggerated level. I notice it when going to the mall, or doing whatever. I noticed it with a family member of mine that is little. Look at other people of other age ranges tend to not be as awkward with strangers compared to the youngsters. It wasn't like this when I was a kid.

I don't really see it that much around me...
but I don't live in a place in which every single household has a lot of tech like that
and people in general go out way more
I think it is because you are in Mexico. I think you told me years ago you live in Mexico. Latin America people of all age ranges are still super sociable because the culture and it isn't individualistic.
yeah... right at the border
and it can be quite a drastic difference too...
people are way more friendly, casual and social in Mexico... in Texas, people just stick to their business and go around on their own
but these are generalizations too, lol
Most people in America of all age ranges and generations started to suck at socializing in person since like the late 2000s and it kept getting worse, and than the straw that broke the camels back was COVID to now. It became an exaggeration. While yes people talk to strangers and people they don't know well, if the other person talks a lot or past 5 minutes, most people look at them like they are on crack. Lmao. Unless it about politics or something passionate people can talk forever to a stranger. But if it is any topic, most of the time the person talking to a stranger past 5 minutes, is drunk, high, mentally unstable, etc. Very few friendly people these days past"Hi" when it comes to people talking to strangers without being drunk, etc. when talking for a while. Have you noticed this in America? I'm Latin America people can still talk to strangers past 5 minutes regarding any topic regardless if they are drunk or not. Lmao.
It's well documented. Young adults spent about 1 1/2 hours a day socialising IRL in 2003, down to about 1 hour in 2017 and a bit more than 1/2 an hour in 2025.
It is because America individualism as well because you noticed how in Latin America they have not gotten affected as much by socialness because of their culture being so social? Even the youngsters there are still super social.
I think Covid stunted a lot of people’s social skills
But even though you are a youngster yourself have you noticed that even though people of all age ranges and generations are awkward and that it got worse during COVID and after that, I am sure you noticed that people that are like late 20s or early 30s and older are not as awkward as people in your age range and younger? I think it is because you guys grew up with the technology being really advanced when you guys were super young and COVID happened when you guys were super young. Whereas people in my age (34) didn't grow up with it but it did come at a huge expansion in our early 20s or later.
My parents say that gen z is totally messed up and many companies refuse to hire people in their 20s.
I've noticed that too
But people in Latin America , etc the kids are still super socially fine like when we were youngsters (I am 34). I think it because Latin America still prioritizes in person socialization and is not an individualistic and even COVID didn't affect them. But America we are individualistic and things are different here and the technology got to us , especially the youngsters so things affected everyone especially the youngsters the most. What do you think?
