Do you think people genuinely change, or do they just get better at hiding who they really are? 🤔
I've wondered about this a lot, especially after watching people change over the years. Sometimes someone who once hurt you comes back years later and seems completely different. They speak differently, treat people better, and seem to have learned from their mistakes.
But then there's that little voice in your head asking, “Have they really changed, or have they simply learned how to hide the parts of themselves you didn't like?” 😕
I do believe people can grow. Life can humble you, heartbreak can teach you, and making mistakes can force you to look at yourself in a way you never wanted to. Some people genuinely become kinder and more self-aware because of what they've been through. ❤️🩹
But I also think some people only change their behavior when it benefits them. They learn what to say, what not to say, and how to appear different without actually changing deep down.
Maybe real change isn't about what someone promises or how different they seem at first. Maybe it's about what they consistently do when nobody is watching.
What do you think? Can someone truly become a completely different person, or do most people simply become better at hiding the parts of themselves they don't want others to see? 💭

I absolutely love this question because I honestly think that people can change for the best and they do change for the best
For whatever reasons they changed for
And at the same time like you said I think people as they get older they just get better at their craft
I have a friend that was a bad boy and had to take on a new responsibility so we had to change but when all said and done as he gets older he hasn't changed she's just got better at his manipulation in doing what he does and it's really really sad because the reason why he had to change was because his granddaughter entered into his life
He's still the same person he just does it all in a different way and now he is teaching her and that's the sad part
Because she was so smart so intelligent and could see things read things deeper than most people and understood it he thought he was getting away with something and she could read him like a book and now she's acting just like him
And he doesn't even see it or he does see it and he thinks by letting her get away with it that she will love him more or something I don't know but it's wrong
I don't feel bad for him but I do feel bad for her because this is not who she's meant to be in life but hopefully she will learn this lesson and understand it
She's the one that is supposed to break the cycle
Is kids followed in his footsteps
She came into his world to change everything but through his manipulation she's acting exactly like him she's just smarter and hides it better than him
But like I told him he needs to stop now because every year she gets older
And the more she's allowed to get away with it it'll be the same question to her did she change or did she just get better at it
I would love to sit in this question Because I've talked to him until I was blew in the face Telling him what he's doing
And I believe he thinks because he's allowing her to get away with things because he's selfish and and just wants his granddaughter to love him he doesn't understand he's hurting her more than he's helping her because he just wants to be loved
case by case scenario...
some won't even try to change... because they just don't want to
some can try as much as they want, but they just are who they are and the way they are
yes, liars and cheaters will lie and cheat about it, those exist as well
but we all change, always... for better or worse, we all do it... just not the same extent, not to the same rate either... many times there's some growing up to do, or a whole lot of growing up to do as well... as for your latest lines, a promise is just a promise it is not change... sometimes we're just fooling ourselves about others, lol
Sure, people can change over time. Are you the same as your 5 year old self? But everyone has a different ceiling for personality growth and knowledge. Some people get stuck in "High School" mode and are basically an adolescent for 20 or 30 years. Some people learn fast. Some people learn painfully slow through first hand experience and repeated failures. Some people never learn or grow.
And growth slows over time for all of us. We hit plateaus. Basically we reach our potential. At age 5 change is constant and fast. By age 25, most of us have reached maybe 90% of our our potential and change slows down. But some of us keep learning and evolving for life. The late stage changes are usually subtle but sometimes they can be profound.
What if you are a person who doesn't need to change and they are fine just the way they are? Not everyone is bad or evil.
I believe that you have to have done something unacceptable to other people, that would be a reason to change certain behaviors.
But there's the natural change which comes with age and maturity.
If a person needs to change certain aspects of themselves I believe they can, but they have to want to change and then start practicing new behaviors to replace the ones that aren't working for them.
It’s not universal. Each individual is their own person. We live by our own means, purpose, and intent. Everyone can change if they genuinely and willingly want to change for the better.
And yes, there will be also be people who decide to not change because they’re set in their own ways and maybe they’re also better at hiding their true identity and intent for survival, malicious reasons, defense mechanism, upbringing, attention-seeking, or etc.
we all have our own perceptions, beliefs, conscious and unconscious biases, or we may even be gullible to fall for some people who isn’t actually genuine… I know I definitely see lots of people behind their deception irl and here, but I also see a lot of goods in others who are authentic and their personal development.
It's definitely possible to change, but if you are going to question their change you must find the root of it, people simply don't change for no reason, there's always something that pushes people to change, it's best to find that core and judge the change based on that.
Nobody changes at their core.
This is why women who have large body counts are judged by men. Because you can call yourself a changed person, a reclaimed virgin. But the REALITY Is, that that is her past. And it doesn't lie. She can lie. But it won't. This is why a lot of women hide their past. OWN your past! A guy has a much higher liklihood of accepting a woman who deems was just too trusting in her early years. Than a woman who not only slept around but now shows she's a liar to boot. No self respecting guys is going to choose that woman.
I know people can change because I've had every one of my morals and opinions deconstructed by the observable reality and constant fuck ups in my life 😞
It's like sacrificing a part of my soul but I have to in order to achieve wisdom & strength 💪🤓💪
Most people to be invested in being right about things to the point they're willing to be dishonest with themselves just to show off how competent they supposedly are.
I wouldn't say I'm kinder though. I'm less kind because I found out being kind doesn't get you anywhere so I'll reserve my kindness for family.
🙏 I truly understand where you're coming from... People ruining your positive energy
Can a leopard ever change it's spots NO, but it continues to be excellent in hiding.
I agree 💯
I agree with your points that people can choose to grow and change.
I think the natural trend, though, is towards people hiding worse who they are, not better. You see this is gerontology all the time, but even your parents, etc. That's the path you need to choose not to go down.
sometimes younger people can change cause there not fully developed yet , can think of younger girls i meet who were a lot different a couple years later as they grew up. i suppose there personality may not of changed much but life experience did and things like dating/sexual experience would be much greater
Most people just upgrade their mask. Real change is quiet, takes time, and only happens when someone stops playing a role and starts taking true accountability.
People can and do change over time for better and for worse. People who have something to hide do tend to get better at that over time up until a point. I’ve seen those people hit a breaking point where they can’t anymore or just don’t want to as they get older.
People never change... and I think people only get worse over time and that means getting worse at hiding who they truly are.
You can only do so much then you have to move on from somebody that never changes
It's more like stuff gets added on but the core is the same.
@Veronika_p mostly get better at hidding
I guess
People can change. But, they have to prove it over time.
they dont change and dont hide it
Then what do they do then?
mostly theyb get better st hiding who they are.
I dont think deep down, people do not change.
Depends on how mature they are
Mostly get better hiding
