St. Louis is frequently in the top five most dangerous cities in the US.
Fun fact: along with Memphis, Birmingham, Detroit and Baltimore, St. Louis rounds out the five cities that put the US in the top twenty of international rankings for gun violence. If you remove those five cities, the US drops into the bottom ten.
Oh, and they’re long time primarily democrat led cities as well. Kind of another fun fact. Ell oh ell!

Dangerous, i'd probably say East St. Louis. Oakland probably has a comparable amount of crime but i'd bet East St. Louis probably has more violent crime.
St Louis is arguably the most dangerous city in the US.
According to the official statistics, Oakland has pretty bad property crime, like vehicle theft. But St Louis ranks near the top of the country when it comes to violent crimes. The murder rate is 66 % higher in St. Louis than Oakland
I believe that. I think people think California and they think, "gangs". Realistically, gangs are everywhere now. But i had a guy i worked with that grew up in East St. Louis. So yeah, he impressed that upon me.
Memphis wrestles the title away from St. Louis quite frequently, and Baltimore is up there too.
I heard that St. Louis is really bad since democrsts took it over.

Oakland became gentrified and is no longer particularly dangerous.
