That would depend on how you define "Our Side". The government, Federal and State, are all wholly own subsidiaries of Corporate America and Billionaires. For a very small group of people the government is absolutely on "Their Side". For 99% of the population, the government is actively working to keep us in debt and poverty from womb to tomb.

Think about it. Who's contributing millions, or collectively billions for politician's election campaigns? Who are the candidates? Who is choosing the candidates? Not poor people. Not plumbers and electricians. Not middle class 9-5 schmucks. And what's the cost vs benefit for buying the government. Billions vs Trillions over centuries.

How many people do you need to buy to control the government. We have 3 branches of government.

Executive - 1 guy, the president
Senate - We have 2 Senators for each state for a total of 100 Senators
House Of Representatives - 435 seats at the moment based on population.
Judiciary - We currently operate with 9 Supreme Court Justices.

So 1+100+435+9 = 545. You only need to buy off 545 people for total control of all legislation and the courts. Less actually. All you need is a veto proof majority. So 67 Senators and 290 Representatives.

Now we're down to 1+67+290+9 = 367 politicians you need to own to control all legislation and the courts. And a population of 340 million economic slaves. That is where we stand. Look at the legislation that has been passed in the last 50 years. Every vote has been a gift to the 1% and a knife in the back of citizens. And 1/3 of the population is not only OK with this arrangement, they cheer for their own poverty. Can you say "Fucked Up" boys and girls?

I think Chinas govt is, although they are overcontrolling, for the sake of all.

USA government is on the side of corporations, which can be viewed on our side, but they will sacrifice all including children.

I think there are core values that we should hold to that they may hold to. They may try to exert on others agianst their wills.

This is big question, blah blah blah...:)

The government's job is to govern, not choose sides. You can't be on everyone's side.

My take on it is that governments are always convinced that they're on "my"(the citizens) side. Even Hitler, and Stalin were convinced their idea will be good for Germans, Russians.

And the governments believe it's enemies are against the well being of the citizen.

The problem is that all too often the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Also, I don't really believe "our side" exists in developed countries, "our side" looks more like a myriad, if not chaos, of different values, behaviours and worldviews, put together in the same space
