Honesty is not intrinsically rude. Some people suggest otherwise because they are not comfortable with the truth. Most truths that must be shared can be shared with tact. However, truth must be shared even when tact cannot be applied.
Some things are better left unsaid. I do not believe in “radical honesty. I think that’s just the practice of excusing being an *sshole by calling it virtue.


Remember, you cannot offend someone who refuses to be offended and you cannot avoid offending someone who insists on being offended. So if it must be said, say it honestly and as tactfully as possible, and let the chips fall as they will.

No, life is more complicated than that. It's better to be tactful in many situations what sometime is asking for an opinion.

I’d say it really depends. Sometimes the truth is important to tell. For example a doctor should tell a patient they are sick if it is the truth even though that is likely not what the patient wants to hear.

If a person gives me a present I don’t like for my birthday or Christmas I probably just would pretend to like it. A white lie like this is okay in my opinion.

Depends on the person. There are ways to say things. I usually prefer being honest and polite, but I won't hesitate to be rude if they deserve it.
