1 dThe US has always done a super job of conducting free and fair elections. The only thing that's brought this into question at all is Donald tRump's egotistical tantrums and refusal to accept reality. Fraud in US elections is so rare as to be almost non-existant.

2 dThey work just fine here. 89% turn out, 16.41 million votes counted, 61 cases of suspected multiple voting. And politicians don't get a say in the geography of electoral districts. They work just fine in most rich countries, so far as I can tell.

1 dWe know exactly how many people there are, we know whom voted and that they are legal to vote. It's auditable.

Every single election I've voted at and where I've worked at the voting booth, the ID is checked, I sign a piece of paper. Are you saying that is not happening where you are and should not?
- 1 d
I'm terribly confused by your answer.
In the united states, in every single election I've worked and voted in, we were trained to ask for ID and have them sign a paper. There were democratic representatives and republicans present, every time, and this is in multiple locations.
Were those people violating something... demanding I sign a paper with my name and present my ID? Are you saying in CA, I could just walk in and say "Im voting" and that's it?
- 13 h
this is how it worked in mid west and east coast states, republican leaning and democrat leaning. I don't claim to understand california. I worked the voting booth, I was trained in the election rules for our areas.
- 13 h
Okay, well, you were trained the way you were trained, and that's okay, but on the West Coast and here in California, we don't ask for voter ID because there's no reason to. Even if the wrong person votes or something like that occurs, there is no definitive effect on the election outcome. Doing what you're suggesting just creates congestion in the last minutes when people are trying to vote, and it's expensive to do and pointless.
- 13 h
I did not know CA or other states were different, I guess this is why the big arguments how this is done. I don't understand that position though. To me it be common sense to show up and present an ID that I am the person whom is siging the page that I'm voting. It says nothing about whom I vote for.
If don't do that, just show up and say "Im voting", going to have fraud, how much and where... strikes me as a problem in voting.
oh well.
- 13 h
Every single study of voting fraud that's been done in the United States has shown either no fraud or very minuscule amounts of it. In order to actually affect the outcome of voting, you would need to have a very substantial amount of fraud, and that fraud would be immediately apparent to election workers. That has never occurred. So the thing is, at this point, trying to detect fraud is pointless because it has no effect on outcomes. Why is it that we should impose an awkward and expensive process on people when, even if a little bit of fraud occurs, it doesn't mean anything? It doesn't change anything.
- 12 h
I'd like to see the expense diff between CA and CT. both have extremely different processes apparently, and both are Dem. CA is a big state, maybe it's a scale issue.
- 5 h
"36 states have laws requesting or requiring some form of ID at the polls, while the other 14 states and DC use other ways to verify identity, usually a signature match. That covers in-person voting only, not mail ballots."
a large part of the country thinks differently...
- 5 h
Actually, where I live here in California, we seem to have signature matching for mail and voting. In that, you have to sign the envelope, and then they match your signature on the envelope to a signature that they have on file. To that extent, I suppose that there is some verification. Considering how many people live in this state, it doesn't really make any difference.
- 4 h
that makes some sense to have some verification and audit trail.
- 4 h
It's also now that I think about it a complete waste of time and cost a lot of money since people have to be paid to do this. We literally have millions of votes in the state so I'm not sure how any of this gets done. I suspect that it's not done routinely or consistently, and quite frankly nobody here cares. It doesn't make any difference. Mathematically one bit let me be really clear about that mathematically it makes no sense. You are not going to save any money or prevent any serious crimes by doing it.
2 dIt would involve in person voting and special voter ID

I thought you wanted an honest election but I see now you don't care as long as you win. Winning is everything to you you don't care how honest it is.
- 2 d
To people like you, the only honest election is one that your candidate wins, and you're completely incapable of accepting the fact that your candidate might lose. Any election that your candidate loses must mean that the election was rigged in some way. I hate to tell you this but it doesn't work like that.
- 1 d
It does sound crazy. Did you ask what it honest election looks like but you don't want the answer. If it's anything other than your way it's obviously wrong. Why should we show ID for anything in this country? Should you have to show ID to buy alcohol? Should you have to show ID to buy cigarettes? Should you have to show ID to get into the Hollywood award shows? Should you have to show ID to get into the White House?

You can actually do a lot more damage with a gun than you can by voting. It doesn't seem like it at first glance, but it actually is true. More importantly, however, there has never been an election in this country that has been changed by a few people voting illegally. It just doesn't happen and there's a variety of reasons that it doesn't happen. Those are reasons that people like the two of you ignore because you have an ulterior motives for demanding voter ID. Those motives have to do with disenfranchising the people that you don't want voting because they won't vote for the candidates to you. Favor. I see. Just that you get better politicians and better policies and then you won't have to worry about these things.
Very shortly you are about to experience the results of selecting bad and in one case, crazy politicians and bad policies that make people unhappy and make their lives harder. Your party is going to lose control of the House of Representatives and probably the Senate as well. That is actually a very big deal and will have a big effect on the next two years on the quality of life in this country, which at the moment is pretty much horrible. Things are about to get better. - 1 d
The difference between us and you is that you tolerate corruption. You think a little bit of voter fraud is just fine. You're like those people who think that theft under $1000 is OK. It's not OK. That's what you need to learn
- 1 d
Racial bias?
Do you just throw out terms like a five-year-old?
What makes you think I support any corruption? Do you just create a lie and then repeat it so many times you believe it? - 1 d
That's the part I don't understand. Why would he tolerate any voter fraud?
- 1 d
Only one party wants illegals to vote. And only one party doesn't want voter ID. Do the math
- 16 h
Per your update: You must've personally counted all the ballots if you know there was no cheating involved.
- 14 h
Do you have any idea how much cheating would have had to be involved to change the results of any election? Much more than is possible and if it had actually occurred we would know about it. It didn't. What did occur was that Trump became incredibly unpopular because of his behavior.
- 14 h
The the ballots haven't been counted yet and you already know there was a no cheating. And you also know that Trump was not going to accept democrats winning this and you were wrong about that.
- 14 h
Allowing cheating is like allowing theft at stores. Why does the left think it's OK to steal a certain amount?
- 7 h
I live in Ohio which voted heavily Democrat yesterday (especially for governor and U. S. senator). We already have a state law requring voters present photo ID. There was an statewide issue on the ballot yesterday (issue 3) that asked voters if voter ID requirements should be officially added to the state constitution... and the issue passed decisively (65% "yes", 35% "no"). The issue NOT a liberal vs. conservative thing.
- 6 h
@rocksongwriter
It all boils down to common sense. I guess most people in Ohio have common sense. - 6 h
Elections of this size? There are more elections in the U. S. than just nationwide or statewide elections. What about township elections where people are voting for township trustee? Voter ID requirements protect ALL elections.
- 5 h
@rocksongwriter you go right ahead and pay for it, and also tell your neighbors that you don't trust them if you live in a small town. Also, feel free to stand at the polling place, wherever that might be, and be sure to check IDs and all the rest of it, which will make you real popular.
- 4 h
That's a great idea about checking voter IDs at the polling station.
- 4 h
Why would that keep people from voting? Would it keep you from voting?
- 3 h
What?
- 3 h
Not meant for you @OldGreyMare

u 1 d@goaded I have no control over Russia versus Ukraine. They’ve got a straighten that out themselves. Iran is a big mess and you know about those people. And if they don’t agree, not to pursue Nuclear technology their whole country should be annihilated and what I mean by annihilated the bridges wiped out the infrastructure the buildings, but don’t harm the citizens. Give them a warning to clear out of the area, then take care of business with those knuckleheads. Because they don’t listen they are rebellious and they’re dangerous. and I also don’t like the idea of head hunting on the people that are in charge of Iran. Let’s talk about Germany now.
