"Psych" vs. "The Mentalist" - which TV show do you like better?

Eerily similar story lines…

Men with Sherlock-like deductive reasoning skills who previously or currently pretend to be psychics while working with the police as consultants. Both even take place in California, haha!

"Psych" is more comedy, while "The Mentalist" is more drama.

"Psych" did come first, by 2 years.

Honestly, I like both for very different reasons.

I love "Psych" because of the relationship between Shawn and Gus… I want a friendship like that so badly, haha!

I love(d) "The Mentalist" for the Red John story line and how Jane interacted with people. Fell out of love with it when the Red John story line ended so poorly though :-/

If you've seen both, which do you like better?

The Mentalist. The ongoing search for Red John has me captivated! The tactics He uses is just unreal sometimes. It's so interesting to me! I've tried to watch Psych a few times and it's kinda burning to me.

I actually dislike both shows but the mentalist is way more palpable than psych. Those two guys really get on my nerves.

I love The Mentalist. Although Psych has more humour in it, I love Patrick Jane and his merry crew of crime fighters.

I've never heard of The Mentalist. But I love Psych! Psych really makes me laugh, it's too bad though that they're ending it after it's 8th season is up if the ratings are still good.

Sure... you hit on why I like Psych too, they knock off everything, like Twin Peaks. And they always have people FROM what they're knocking off, making it that much more fun to watch, in my opinion :-)

Aww, well, I've been late to the game. I started watching it on Netflix, so I've only seen the first 6 seasons. Why it takes so long for Netflix to get new seasons, I'll never know, haha! So because I haven't seen 7, I haven't been watching 8. Maybe it's better if I wait and watch them altogether.

I hope it doesn't take long for it to show up on Netflix. Every once in awhile, Google Play has deals on episodes. I got the pilot for free.

That's how I got into Dexter, first ep was free on Google Play. I'd rather NOT watch them on TV anyway because I can't stand commercials, haha!

Totally agree. I got into Doctor Who by watching episodes on project free tv and fortunately got caught up before they stopped putting anything new on.

Psych has much much much stronger writing and filming, i prefer it in the extreme
