Should i be ashamed that i work as a cleaner?

So i went from a village to a big city abroad to go to university here, my parents couldn't help me with money because they don't have it a lot..
First i couldn't find any job! i was eating only bread and milk for some time and going everywhere by bicycle because i didn't even have money for a bus..
I was starving but didn't want to give up so i found a job as a cleaner..

Now my situation is kinda better because other than cleaning i work as a babysitter.. i believe some day i will find better job, i also go to university..

But when people ask me what is my job , their reaction isn't very nice..

Do you think i should be ashamed? should i rather hide it?

No you should be proud as hell of yourself. You're a hardworking driven and talented individual. I know this because you've come from a difficult small town background to go to a university - and have funded it yourself through your hard work.

Most people wouldn't even understand the hardship of what you've had to do to get on to the same level playing field as them so fuck them if they're too up their own asses to realize this.

Some people are simply stupid and judge people far too quickly as a result of what they do for a living. Its only their loss - and they'll lose a lot more in life as they consistently underestimate people. Learn to use this underestimation of your talent to your advantage.

I also guarantee you this. You will find a better job if you really want to. Because you are willing to work when a lot of people can't be bothered to frankly and just say the economy sucks or some weak excuse like that. If you're willing to genuinely work hard you will be successful in the end.

If I were you I'd be happy with where I was in my life and where I was going because these experiences will give you greater hunger and desire and will stand you at an advantage in the future! I know because I've done the same thing myself and as a self made man I look back on the hardship I endured to get to where I wanted to be with pride.

Perhaps they thought you meant you were a cleaner (assassin) who cleans up messy situations.

I think it's natural that people will consider your job as a reflection of you. There is always some degree of disdain or admiration when someone says they work as a: garbage man, policeman, firefighter, neurosurgeon, IT technician, retail, waitress... etc.

Nothing you can do will change that perception.

Unfortunately, a cleaner falls in the category of menial jobs that require no skill or education. The same goes for cashier, janitors, Wal-Mart greeter, burger flipper... where any high school kid can perform these jobs.

Be ashamed of it? There is a tendency to do so, since a prestigious job breeds confidence. A menial job is nothing to be proud of. I'm sure younger people will say you have nothing to be embarrassed about, but that's total BS. I don't think those same people would walk with their heads held high or expect a boyfriend/girlfriend to stick around long, if their job were cleaning toilets at Starbucks.

Dont be ashamed! You are doing something incredible for yourself, and seem to have a pretty strong work ethic. Dobt let those people get you down, because in the long run, you know what you're doing. Work is work, and you have a very nobel job. Its not easy caring for babies and cleaning houses, espically wjen they aren't your own! Keep up the good work, and enjoy the fact that you're supporting yourself through school.

First of all i want to tell you that i admire what you are doing and that i think you're very brave, i don't think you should hide it, since work is always a good thing, you should never be ashamed of who you are or what you do, yes, people can be very judgmental, but it shouldn't matter what they think

of course not. you should be proud of yourself, you sound resilient. people being dicks is something you have to deal with in life-and well you're not doing anything bad, you're getting your own money-be proud.

You have no reason to be ashamed. You are working for a living and earning your keep. It is people like you that keep the planet running. It sure beats all those lazy people collecting government assistance that are too lazy to get a job at all.

Noone should be ashamed of working an honest job. Are they mean or awekward? Maybe it's in presentation...

Maybe start with the company you work for, then you can explain what they do. OR start with "Right now I'm..." so you can talk about future plans.

I find it's hard to find common ground with people far outside my field, so it's nice when they give me some nuggets to work with regarding small talk.
