There are groupthinks of mainstream society who are quick to dismiss anything they consider “unscientific” only because it doesn’t come from a mainstream source. These groupthink folks don’t have any valid counter arguments except for a barrage of fallacies yet still resort to using the simple word “unscientific” to dismiss something without even giving a valid reason why they are skeptical.

You often see this in debates, a lot of these pseudo-intellectuals like to argue from authority by citing all sorts of “credible sources” but whenever an alternative source that contradicts the pseudo intellectual’s source is proposed, the pseudo-intellectual is quick to label it “unscientific”.

Furthermore, people like to attach the “unscientific” label to anything they don’t understand or can’t be explained at the moment. Only for their skepticism to be debunked as more information on the subject is gradually acquired.

Yesterday I took a Political Compass Test and the question came up "Some people are naturally unlucky" and since I don't believe in magic, curses, karma or any of that I voted "Strongly Disagree" and moved on, but then I put some thought into it and had to change my answer to "Agree" and here's why.

When I think of someone who is naturally unlucky I'm not talking about someone who got cursed for breaking a mirror or and nonsense like that, I'm talking about someone who was born in unfortunate circumstances. Someone who was born in a poor family or has horrible parents, growing up in a bad area, having a physical and/or mental illness, or anything that negatively affects their life. I'm not talking about something that happens later in someones life, I'm talking about what they were born with since nobody can choose where they are born or what family they were born with, and bad thing that happen later in life are things that everyone has to deal with at some time or another.
Can these unlucky people get out of their situations with enough effort? Of course they can, but they're going to have it a lot harder than someone who was blessed to have been raised in a stable environment with money (doesn't have to be rich), with good parents and live in a good neighborhood.

So I don't think that being unlucky has anything mystical to it, it's just the unfairness of the world.
