Joe Biden said from the start he isn't running in 2024. Tulsi is fine, but honestly rather see her be governor of Iowa. Yes, I'm aware she is already in Congress. But she is a slightly right of center Democrat and that's exactly the sort of person Iowa would vote for. And being a governor is no small thing. There are only 50, after all.

And in case you weren't able to understand the dynamics of why those Dems lost their seats, it's because Republicans were able to taint those candidates with their propaganda as being controlled by socialists even though they weren't. The fear of the AOCs and the Bernies are why those candidates lost. So thanks a lot for that. You and people like you helped the Democratic party lose house seats and probably fail to gsin senate control. So congratulations. Goid job.

Because they ran in districts that have been heavily dominated by Democrats for years. Not every Congressional district is like that. Many Dems won seats in 2018 that were swing districts or had tradtionally voted Republican. They're the ones that were susceptible to the smear, not people who run in districts that the Democratic candidate always wins 70-30 since forever. Do you understand the difference?

Katie Porter is a progressive and she won twice in a district that was always Republican

Katie Porter has aligned herself on some issues with the progressives like Medicare for all and wears a progressive label but she hasn't lined up on every issue. She supports making college affordable for all, but not free. Regardless, she is an attorney who's clerked for a number of prominent judges, was a law school professor, worked as a Consumer protection attorney and was appointed to roles as a consumer watchdog in Caliifornia by Kamala Harris. She may align herself with the progressives on some issues but her background is as mainstream as it gets. And she endorsed Elizabeth Warren for president, not Bernie. It would be almost impossible for the Republicans to pigeonhole her as a socialist/radical/communist cause her background is so mainstream. Not so with many other candidates. She's the exception, not the rule. And that's your problem with the way you think about these things. You see a group of 20, see one exception and you think that proves your case. It doesn't and in almost every case, things are more nuanced, complicated and grey than your view of the world allows for which always seems to be either black or white.

I'd rather be tough on China/Rusia than Saudi Arabia and am not necessarily in favor of medicare for all or ending all wars. That being said between the two I'd prefer Gabbard. I don't think there would be a massive difference in policies between the two but she's at least not senile so that gives her the win in my book. Ideally I don't think someone pushing 80 should be running the country.

I'm not against being hard on Saudi Arabia, I'm just more concerned with Russia/China.

That doesn't mean it would scale well here. We also have fatter, less healthy people so I think the tax burden to fund it would be greater. I would rather see efforts to reduce costs if possible rather than make everything free. Like are prices expensive because they actually cost a lot or are pharmaceuticals and hospitals artificially jacking up the prices because they can? If its the latter Id prefer to adress that instead of just funding everything with taxes.

Or if it really has to be free can't we trial it in a state like California or NY first instead of just rolling it out for the whole country.

The thing with polls is that how the question is phrased matters a lot. If you ask people if they support free healthcare then sure most will say yes. However if you provide specifics on how it will afect their individual tax burden I suspect less would be in favor of it. I mean if it is really going to be funded purely by Millionaires & Billionaires then I guess I am cool with it. However if it requires raising taxes for middle class workers then I suspect there would be a lot more opposition.
