Technically, yes. It's considered a sport and physical activity that requires being limber and in decent shape due to all their movements- I used to see the cheerleaders at my high school running track and working out regularly as part of their regime!!

And most cheerleaders are in VERY good shape due to how active they are. So yeah, I would consider them athletes.

Yes. Gymnasts are, and cheerleading is essentially gymnastics in less impractical outfits and more creepy repetitive chanting.

I'd say yes. There are Cheer Competitions, at the high school and college levels. They combine Gymnastics with Acro.

Cheering was originally invented to help motivate male athletes and get them excited so they could win.

Today it is also a sport, it seems.
