I don't want to wear public shoes I had to deal with athlete's foot for years. My friends invited me to play. I want to go but I don't want to rent shoes. But I don't have bowling shoes neither.
As for me there was a day when I rented bowling shoes however it was cheaper to buy my own shoes instead of renting theirs. In addition when you use your own bowling shoes at least you know who’s feet have been in them & they are comfortable too.

Buy yourself an antifungal spray. That way before you put them on it will kill germs and infection. The bowling alley should spray them before and after each use anyway!

Take salicylic acid powder with you and liberally apply it to the inside of the shoes before you put them on, and your feet after you remove them. It's the main active ingredient in antifungals and I've never seen it not work like that.
That liquid hand sanitiser that's minimum 70% alcohol works on your feet straight after the shoes come off as well. You can always rent the shoes and not wear them, play in your socks. Do not wear your shoes though, that will damage the lanes.

Yes, it used to be like two dollars extra. I’m not sure how much it is now that was a long time ago.
Whenever I've gone bowling, pay for shoes, give me back at the end 🎳 👟
