Why don't skateboarders wear helmets?

Question

They ride very fast sometimes. I feel like they need to wear helmets in case of falling down and hitting heads. And they do dangerous stuff sometimes. Why it is not required to wear helmets for them?

A big part of skateboarding culture is based on being anti-establishment - against the rules of society - and not wearing helmets or pads and being tough enough to crash and take the injuries without them is all part of the anti-establishment aesthetic.

Of COURSE it's dangerous, but that's the point: they're willing to face the danger and in their own circles they are respected for doing so.

Downhill long boarders and vert skaters usually wear helmets. Street and park skates usually don't, but there are exceptions like Andy Anderson.

it is something not much skateboarder do but let me say you can still be cool and not be dorky when you wear a helmet thats like saying you don't wanna wear a helmet on a motorbike incase you look to gonny a know a lot of people that wear helmets for stuff still very cool guys and girls

Because when you go on a skateboard as a teenager, you feel really cool that you can do all these tricks and stunts. As soon as you put a lid on? That coolness goes right out the window!

1st they are annoying same reason people don't want to wear masks.  2nd it's the culture around it that's like asking why do many rappers, rap about crime.

It is part of the skateboarders thing. They supposedly are the outsiders. No helmets and no knee pads. I took many a spill as a kid and I never wore protective gear.
