Is sports fishing real?

The thing about fishing is it's a sport anyone can do at a basic level. A child can turn up at their local pier, drop a line in and hope for the best.

What makes it a sport is the ability to read the tides, currents, water temp, weather conditions etc and adjust tactics to target just one or two species while avoiding the rest.

The fish was later served on the dinner parties...
But -hey! - my profession in real life is to make boats. I should be silent :D

I have a problem with most forms of fishing , unless the fish is caught to genuinely eat , I do not agree with game fishing , purely to torture a fish.
