I never did fishing, but was thinking to try it this time.
people who fished first time, what was your reaction and did you get luck on first try?

1 yI do it all the time. You can pick easy marks where you can fish from your car or difficult ones with long hikes and scrambles down cliffs. Fishing waist deep in the surf at night is great fun.
There's everything from LRF which targets minis right up to shark fishing and you get to chat to lots of interesting people on the way, having a rod is basically an invitation to come and chat. Lots of people will tell you their lifestories for some strange reason.
Skill wise, the practical side is easy to master. It's learning the patterns of tides, winds, waves etc to predict where the fish are that takes time to learn, it's not just luck
If you haven't been before it's best to get someone experienced to take you to a good spot where you've a high chance of catching something. Ignore everything on YouTube, most of it is bollocks.24 Reply- 1 y
@purplepoppy which fish?
Trout, salmon, snapper? - 1 y
Lots of species here, I had nearly 40 species one year but bass make up the bulk of the catches

@purplepoppy salmon or trout are my favorite

I've had a few seatrout over the years while spinning for bass. Sea trout is one of our local delicacies

1.7K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. I remember the first time I fished. My dad had bought me a rod and spinning reed. My mom, dad, sister, my mom's mom, dad, uncle and her sister and brother in law and their two kids all went to a lake. I was probably 5 years old.
My uncle set up my line with a sinker and bobber and baited my hook.
I stood on the bank and cast out into the lake. Then I stood there braced to keep from getting pulled in if a big fish took the bait. LOL I heard my uncles snickering quetly behind me.
When I saw the bobber dip, I yanked on the line so hard that the fish flew out of the water and landed behind me. It was a little blue gill.
I took it home in a bucket to keep as a pet. Of course it was dead by the next day.
I've been fishing quite a few times, mostly for trout in creeks. Lots of times off the the bridge at the Seal Beach jetty in So. California. A few times in row boats or on the shore of lakes. And I went out ocean fishing a couple of times in a friend's Boston Whaler.
I'm not big into fishing, though. I never got into it as form of recreation. I think it''s kind of boring.10 Reply2.3K opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. Fishing and hunting. I was the son substitute for my dad until my brother was old enough.
Summer fishing on a river or lake isn't my favorite because of mosquitos, sea fishing from boat is sometimes hectic and pulling a 30kg monster cod out of water isn't an easy task. Lazy ground fishing for trout, salmon, pike, eel makes most fun00 ReplyI've been fishing as long as I can remember. I know when I was 5 years old I moved to a house on a lake. That's when I got into freshwater fishing. I remember my neighbor worked for Florida Fish and Wildlife. He taught me a lot about fishing and tying knots. When I was around 10 years old my neighbor was moving away to a different city and he gave me a john boat for free that he didn’t want to move so me and my brother chipped in for a small engine so we could drive around the lake and catch bigger fish more easily. Before I got into freshwater fishing, I remember doing inshore fishing on bridges and seawalls with my Mom and Dad as well as drop fishing on group charter boats. So I was probably about 3 years old holding a fishing pole on drop fishing charters. Then when I was probably 6 or 7 years old my dad bought a 25’ outboard fisherman from some Hawaiian guy and we use to go fishing every weekend. When I was a teenager I started surf fishing. Did I catch a fish the first time I went fishing? I couldn’t tell you, not everything is clear back when I was 3 years old. I do remember fish being caught on drop fishing charters. I remember reeling some in probably with a little help. That said, I’ve caught many fish in my life.
00 ReplyYes, it’s really fun well, when you’re actually catching something. A few years back, I got pulled in lol! Make sure you get a good hold, or else you’ll fall in like I did.

1 yI only did twice in my life. Once with my uncle at age 3 which I barely remember and another time I went fishing in a river while rafting down it. I think I was a teenager at the time. I didn’t catch anything though.
I would like to do it again as an adult and see how it goes.00 Reply
1 yI have but I never took interest in it.. First time I went I was 7 or 8, it was me my dad his best friend and his son. I caught a fish the first try but then I reeled it in too fast and it got away so my dad shouted at me.. after that I didn't catch anything and we had to talk quietly so it was super boring.. I went a few other times with my dad but always found it boring so stopped going.

1 yI grew up near the ocean, so I spent a lot of time in my childhood years going fishing with friends. As an adult, there have been times that I took up the sport, occasionally, but I have not fished in probably over ten years. It can be a fun somewhat serene outdoors sport. And there is a certain thrill to catching fish.
00 Reply 421 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. I love fishing I've have fished in the Ocean streams rivers lakes.
Lakes.. I've always bought fish. I love fishing in the freshwater lakes and rivers. You can just taste the difference in the fish. I quit buying stuff from the supermarket
For some reason I just feel like it's dirty And I won't even eat anything out of the ocean anymore
I know it sounds Silly , but It just seems to me. There is something wrong with it00 ReplyYes I have. My godfather loved fly fishing and made his own hooks and stuff. I liked the box of hooks I had as a kid and how they were shiny and stuff I even had a book on fishing once that was really nice but I never got into it that much it's fun if you're doing it with other people and you're out in nature but it's not something I wanna do regularly. And you have to know what you're doing.
00 Reply555 opinions shared on Food & Beverage topic. Yes. I hope out Salmon fishing in Lake Ontario and between four of us we usually pull in about 100 to 125 pounds of King (Also called Chinook) salmon fillets.

1 yI haven't gone fishing in years.
My father and I used to fish when I was younger. Nothing really serious. We usually caught sunfish and bluegills in the Great Lakes.
When my kids were growing up, we occasionally fished in a pond that was stocked with fish, mostly small bass.
Everything was catch and release.

1 yI was a tot when family friends tried to get me to fish. I remember breaking out into hysterics over the poor fish and all the adults freaking out. Still feel pretty much the same.

1 yYes, once. Visitors to my uncle's cabin who fished on the bank caught a lot. My cousins who were "expert" fishermen, went out on a boat and caught nothing. Since I'm not going to eat the fish, I just leave the fish alone to swim.
00 Reply I’ve been fishing before with my grandpa. I think my mind is too active to really appreciate the peace of fishing honestly. Also I don’t like eating the trout that are common around here and prefer Salmon
