Did You Ever Go Magnet Fishing?

I wasn't actually there with them but my brothers did that and retrieved a revolver from a river while camping in southwest. My dad told them to take it to the local Sheriff's Department but they didn't and didn't tell anyone else that they didn't. Years later, while sorting through old stuff, one of my brothers found the gun in our parents' attic where they boxed it and stored it. He gave it to a friend of our's who's a Cop. Apparently, it was used in an accidental shooting incident where nobody died but one got shot and seriously injured. A decades old case was solved but my brothers were charged with obstruction of justice which was dropped because they were just juveniles who simply wanted to keep what they found ("finders keepers rule").
Occasionally, they now take their kids magnet fishing too. Many valuable objects have been retrieved from spots they magnet fished in.
Unearthing crime material. Good for boredom. Next time I need to go to the DMV, to cut the four hr waiting time I’ll find a location next to a large body of water. Thanks for the tip.
I remember the DMV days & the last time I went I was surprised, ten minutes in & out.
Yes, same. Two came out and helped everyone organize before entering. Was dreading it because of covid. Far better than the honest four hr wait a year previous.
I don’t but know some that do it.
it’s very restrictive in the UK and personally it’s more hassle than it’s worth.
Also a couple of guys I know where told in no uncertain terms not to magnet fish in a certain area.
Never done it, but it seems interesting to see what you can find, based on the videos I've seen of it.
Like treasure hunting anything is possible & it sounds like fun & I’m going to buy the stuff to do it.

I have, but it wasn’t a treasure hunt, it was to locate and retrieve a gun that fell in the water.
As for my nephew I’m going to buy him some stuff to go magnet fishing & I’ll make sure I have a talk with him about guns because there is a chance he might catch one.
Mental note. Read replies before posting random silliness. lol
@dustybiker Donkey’s & Ponies. Hahaha.
@dustybiker Also read cards before you sign them. What I thought was a get well card was a card for someone that died, oops.
@Static_In_The_Attic lol awful!
@dustybiker My boss came to my desk at the time & said can we talk about this & what you wrote in the card & what kind of card to you think it is. I said a get well card, my boss started laughing & said it’s not a get well card & please fix this. I’m so glad I had whiteout.
@Static_In_The_Attic 😱 lol
Nah, I don't really need any old shopping trolleys at the moment...
Or golf clubs as well & as for the shopping carts the weight alone would suck.
No, but I have used a small nut on a string guided by a magnet to fish through a finished insulated wall on the job before.
Talk about genius & great idea. I have used a nut attached to string to pull up a wire & never thought of using a magnet with it as well, genius my friend.
Not done it myself but I've watched some kids do it in the river cleddau. They didn't get anything interesting but they Seem to be enjoying it
No but a coworker who has a fishing magnet like that does do it and we've both done it at work trying to get rid of all the loose metal around the property.
I did as a game an an artificial environment at carnivals or children’s parties but never in a lake where you get to keep the magnets you collect
In lakes near where i live you can find a bomb of WWI.
Happy 4th of July if you find one of those things.
That gun in the collage DEFINITELY has bodies on it😂😂😂
I voted for the third option. I was wondering what kind of bait do you use to catch a magnet?
no. because in my countries law, what you find is legally not yours.
It’s a good idea but it makes you look like a total desperate cheapskate 😂
if i were to go mag fishing it would be with a neodymium mag.
I've looked into it just to help clean up the local rivers and lakes... maybe earn some side cash
Yep only found a hook
I’ll call you Captain Hook.
It's an interesting concept though. Good idea
I thought it sounds like a great idea as well & YouTube is loaded with videos on it.
Yes sir it's not for me
Like a lot of things at least you tried it
Not really but you never know what you’ll get
YouTube is loaded with video on it & people catch all kinds of things & some people catch nothing as well. It’s like treasure hunting.
Yeah but the stuff that the magnet can’t stick to is usually worth more , gold, silver, diamonds and pearls a magnet can’t grab
Haha no but I probably will someday 😅
It sounds like fun & I’m actually going to buy rope & a high powered magnet for my nephew & of course some stuff for me as well & give it a try.
Yes I have and didn't find shit
Shit isn't made of metal thats probably your issue
I used to... as a kid
