The modern game of golf originated in Scotland in the 15th century. Originally, only men were allowed to play the game, but over time, women started to play the game.
This is a look at what women golfers have worn over the years, how women's golf fashion has changed over time.
Around 1920, women wore long dresses, down to their ankles, playing golf.

By the 1940s, women golfers still wore dresses, with hemlines a bit below the knee.

The 1960s were the beginning of serious women golfers, with professionals playing in the LPGA, founded a decade earlier. Hemlines rose once again, just above the knee.

The 1980s brought several styles to women's golf, including women wearing shorts.

In the 2000s, shorts were still in style, with some women also wearing skirts.

The 2010s brought short skirts to the golf course.

And finally, today, in 2025, women golfers wear very short skirts or shorts.
