After he got a FIFA substitute of Noble Prize for peace he mentioned that "Soccer" is real Football and I agree in this point with this yellow man.
In Europe "Soccer" is Football, in England mother of this game it's called Football. Germans call it Fussball sometimes written with ß
to look more German. All countries use term foot to describe this ball game.
You Americans call Handball either Handball and not glove ball, don't you?
Of course "Soccer" player wear those funny sock but under those socks are carbon fiber protectors to protect their hundred million dollar expensive legs. However those guys play the ball with legs, most of time, some win with hand even Word Cap like Maradona did, but this is another topic that is connected with corruption in FIFA.
In NFL stuff the ball will be kicked just occasionally.

Cambridge started playing football in 1848, but they were not playing in an association yet. It was an experimental game. When leagues were started to compete against other universities "association football" was formed. So people that were in the leagues were  A s soc . football players. A nickname was made for association football players to distinguish them from rugby players or "ruggers" via anagram at Oxford and by 1889 everyone that played in the association competitively were called  Soccas . So when you play football at an armature level in your back yard with your friends and your grandma, sure you are playing football, but once you join a team, put on a uniform in a league to compete against other teams, you become a Socca player. That is why the USA has a United States Men's National Socca Team, because at a national level we compete in a league against other countries. It's something the English created. It's ridiculous that Americans always have to teach Europe their own history. You guys really need to get your shit together over there. The EU is turning you into mental retards.

I have friends and colleagues all over the world, plus people here on GaG. I almost always call what the NFL plays as "American football" so it doesn't get confused with what the rest of the world calls football/soccer. In Australia they have "Aussie rules" or "footie" to describe their version of a game involving a ball and goals.

Did you know that the word soccer comes from the English? Back in the 1800s, they started calling the sport association football, and the "soc" part of the term evolved into soccer.

I never understood why it was football either but I don't understand a lot of things. Tennis? Where did that one come from? Or Badminton? Like , really? Where you're hitting a "birdie" with a stick? Sounds more like a form of animal abuse or something.
