FIFA gave the USA an easy round against weak teams in order to generate interest among the American public. It was believed if the hosts flopped early on then Americans would lose interest.

But now people are worried that if things go wrong and the unthinkable happens and the USA wins then the inevitable incessant gloating and unbearable smugness will ruin the reputation of the game as the concept graceful victory is alien to Americans.

Some are even suggesting the USA is being given an easy passage to the finals because of it's 250th anniversary and teams told to take a dive or field weak injured players.

No doubt Trump has leaned on teams and threatened countries with tarrifs if they try to hard.

Group draws are often favorable to hosts to keep interest high, that’s not new or uniquely American. Conspiracy stuff about dives, anniversaries, or Trump pressure is just football fan drama. If the US ever wins, it’ll be because they’ve improved.

Well we beat Paraguay easily and Paraguay beat Germany yesterday and knocked them out of the World Cup so what does that tell you about an easy path? I don’t think so. Everybody’s difficult to play especially in the knockout rounds. I don’t understand why you don’t root for the USA the underdog what have they done to you to make you always complain about them and we’re always very nice to your country in politics except you complain about we don’t allow you to have American chickens in England and I know nothing about that story. If you look at FIFA rankings, USA's group was the 2nd hardest, far from the easiest.

No one has to stop USA. The USA men's team has a history of stopping itself, like it did in the Turkiye game that it lost.

Making it out of the group, actually winning it, is a major accomplishment. Anything from now on is just gravy. I suspect USA beating Bosnia-Herzogovinia will be the last win for my American team

USA soundly beat Paraguay 4 to 1. Paraguay just knocked out Germany. That is stunning.

I didn’t realize the USA bad a tough division. Usually FIFA gives the host country an easier one to get excitement going. In the Turkey game, the USA held back with players to avoid injuries and yellow cards.

They should win the next game but who knows. After that will be very tough indeed.

lol I love your take. But honestly American’s really don’t give a sh*t about soccer. To a lot of Americans it’s not a manly sport. I’m not saying it isn’t, but a lot of Americans feel that way. You know how us Americans are. So unless it involves beating the shit out of each other, it’s not that interesting. Sure we’re like ok cool we’re still in the tournament. But if we lose. No skin off our backs, onto the next thing. Besides it’s boring. A number of people at work, mainly the men asked if I was watching the games, I said no. Most of them said the same. The Knicks fans celebrated harder than what American soccer fans do.

Of course Fifa would like to manipulate those games but UEFA ( Union of European Football Associations ) is absolutely pissed about Fifa since years and will with pleasure start their own world cup. Every pissed country with rich clubs like Spain or England could force UEFA to abandon Fifa WC. So it think those games will be fair.
