There are New Rules for Showing Women Athletes in Sports Events
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has introduced updated “Raising the Bar” camera guidelines to reduce the sexualization of female athletes in televised sports, especially in track and field events.

Key Changes
Ban on “unnecessary” body shots: Low-angle shots from behind, tight close-ups, and slow-motion replays that focus on revealing body parts are discouraged unless they directly help viewers understand the performance.
Focus on technique and action: Broadcasters are encouraged to use angles that highlight athletic skill, speed, and form rather than objectifying the athlete’s body.
Event coverage: The rules apply to high jump, pole vault, horizontal jumps, and running events, but the principles can extend to other sports.
Replay and editing: Excessive slow-motion replays of athletes in undignified positions are to be avoided; replays should serve a clear technical or storytelling purpose.

It’s just more feminist nonsense.
In 1973, Sabina Chebichi earned bronze in the 800 meter dash in the Commonwealth Games. She ran in a petticoat. Which, for you young’ns, is essentially underwear. People noticed, but more people were talking about the fact that she also ran barefooted. She was from a poor Kenyan family that couldn’t afford athletic gear. Nobody assumed she was a prostitute just trying to outrun her pimp. Nobody sexualized her because she didn’t sexualize herself.
The only requirements i’m aware of regarding athletic wear is that it cannot be too revealing or carry a controversial sponsor. Certainly some countries want their athletes to wear the colors associated with their flag, but nobody is making them wear form fitting clothing. It’s usually a choice for performance.
I’ll also point out that dozens of prominent athletes, including males, have onlyfans pages, and at least one web page exists for the sole purpose of examining male athletes’ crotches and asses, and speculating about what they’re packing. But these new guidelines are only to maintain integrity in women’s sports? Even the rich and famous women are “oppressed”. There is no amount of wealth and power that can cure the victimhood mentality.

Was there a time when women in sports wore less revealing clothing? Did the change to more revealing outfits really improve athletic performance, or did it just enhance the market appeal of the sport as a business enterprise?

I am all for it. A lot of times the athletes have no say in what they are to wear as each country assigns their uniforms. They are told to wear it or they don't get to compete. There are events where smaller outfits are ok like beach volleyball for example, and MAYBE gymnastics, but for the most part women athletes should be able to wear clothing similar to male athletes.

Unfortunately, I believe that these countries sexualize their women because it is an unfortunate fact of life that the male gaze when judging these events is a factor. It is also requested by tv advertisers to help sell women's events for the same reason to viewing audiences.

That being said, the change to no longer sexualize women this way, at least to the viewing audience, is a positive change. They are not eye candy. They are athletes.

Any sports clothing is going to be designed to maximise performance while standing up to the riggers of the sport, they're not designed to be sexy or turn men on.

Imagine the uproar if they focused on mens bottoms during swimming events.

Before you start worrying about camera angles, how about not dictating costumes for female athletes that don't make them look like pole dancers.

In a lot of sports, these skimpy outfits are mandated by the rules or simply necessary if you don't want to be at a disadvantage, so it's not always a choice. So it does make sense.
