Lately I've been spending a little more time on Reddit these days, and not exactly sure why. I think one question I posted for advice somehow turned into a bit of a growing habit.
Reddit is spoken of as being where the whole internet is, and there is definitely everything there from NSFW content, to your everyday questions, to jobs, to even Hollywood stuff. Everything is categorized with an "r/" before it and you can even cross post in other similar r/ channels to your post. Compared to GaG it has a far greater userbase, far more categories, and a little more freedom like the ability to edit posts. Plus you can even see how many views your answers and comments get, just like you can on Quora as well. Yet overall, it's still a pretty sucky platform to me and doesn't feel quite as alluring as GaG. I suppose it's similar to being a big city like NYC while GaG is more like your ol' familiar suburbs.
But don't get me wrong, Reddit really is pretty good for getting all kinds of answers about anything you may not easily find somewhere else from all kinds of helpful, everyday people going through the same thing or wondering the same thing, and people will tell you way more realistically than a cooking video, legal site, company, etc. I do love that about it, but when you're trying to be active on it? Meh.

Why Reddit sucks so bad
Even with it's perks like being able to edit your posts, and even getting upvotes to your comments, Reddit is actually still pretty restrictive, and that's the most frustrating thing about it. Almost every time I go to make a post, I will get hit with an auto moderator message telling me it can't be in this category, doesn't meet the category requirements, or is too this or that for it. So many r/ channels are loaded with ridiculous rules for making a post, which I know some people think is fine because it prevents trolling or whatnot, but it's just kind of overkill to me. However, unlike GaG, when you do breakthrough these fences and manage to get a post up, you will often get a lot more answers, and with much more serious engagement. I guess you could argue it's because of those moderation tools put in place, or because Reddit's algorithm system is more rewarding than GaG's.
But it gets worse.
You can't even add an answer to someone's post sometimes because you need this or that amount of karma (I guess Reddit's points system, or equivalent to GaG's Xper) and/or your account has to be so many days old. So frustrating to be met with that after you've typed out an answer or response to a good post.

I also really hate that you can't answer a lot of the old posts on there, usually beyond 3 years old. Reddit will archive them. You can see and read everything, but you're unable to add your own comments or upvotes. Even GaG and Quora let you answer questions that are 6,7,8, etc. years old.
Plus there is the risk of getting doxxed. We've heard about people who were on Reddit and then got themselves exposed because of something they posted/said. So crazy in today's world that Internet sleuths care that much to want to expose someone. But I guess it really only matters if you're some kind of icon or a person who's been in the news for a minute.
Maybe it needs patience
To be fair, I really haven't been on there that often. I did create a Reddit account over ten years ago and made a few posts, but not much has changed except for the interface, which is definitely way nicer than it was back then. In order to really get a kick out of it I imagine I'd have to be one of those hard core folks who just sit and spend hours on there and hardly leave their house. I'm too active of a guy for that life.
I'm sure there's worse problems there than I covered here, but also sure there's some pretty great things to enjoy about it too, I just haven't been active enough to really see it. So wanted to post this little rant in my spare time. If you have any thoughts or experiences with Reddit, whether good or bad, let us know. And if you liked this post hit Like and Subscribe lol.

I somewhat agree with you on everything you have said here but I love reddit despite all that because it helped me sort of get through my break up. There's a subreddit called heartbreak and break up and those two helped me out a lot along with writing poetry on the subreddit poem and getting out all my feels. There's many others I could list that had helped me get through things, but those are the main ones.
That's encouraging. Like I was saying I'm not on there often and I'm sure there's probably some good stuff, I just haven't found it yet. I do ultimately like the deep world of Reddit, full of so many topics and channels, like a real Coruscant lol.
Lol yeah there's definitely some bad things about it as you mentioned but there's also some good.
One of the things that baffles me about GAG is that they limit how many questions you can ask per day. Why?
So that causes a shortage of content so they just keep questions up that are a year old. I just don't get it. And of course if you make a mistake you can't fix it in your questions or replies.
I've never posted on Reddit but I do go there to find answers. And I've noticed that AI also looks for answers on reddit.
But similarworlds is a pretty good alternative for you. You can post as many questions as you want per day, edit them and even delete them if you want. I think you should be able to delete your questions because they are after all your intellectual property.
Similar Worlds used to be Experience Project. I used to be on EP and then later I created an account on SW just to see what it was about, and pretty much has the same ridiculous stuff as EP.
Same as this site. Online draws in the social rejects.
"One of the things that baffles me about GAG is that they limit how many questions you can ask per day. Why?"
They dont like the questions we ask and they don't like the answers they get. Otherwise, it's perfect.
It would seem so.
The internet and social media especially is what sucks. Folk get bent out of shape and soew vitriolic bullshit thry wouldn't get away with in public.
Reddit NSFW is the real life Rule 34. You can binge on almost anything sexual you want.
True. I have seen some of that. Had no idea that stuff was on there until a few years ago lol.
I have entered very unlikely (but legal) stuff, and there it was'
Reddit has a very politically correct membership. Very thin skinned and very much a man hating majority. Moderators have heavy power trips.
I've heard that the mods are particularly venomous.
