I quit it for the following reasons:
It inflates self-importance. It feeds into egotism and narcissism which, in turn, also cheapens content because you start angling at getting upvotes. Even your thoughts that take place while away from social media will consist of making epic posts. You become hopelessly dependent on cheap validation by means of receiving upvotes and accumulating followers which, in turn, instills one with the dehumanizing perception of everyone as a means of attaining that validation which has become the only means for feeling good about yourself.
Furthermore, on social media, by being inundated with exciting, hot, trending topics, Tweets going viral, upvotes, reposts, replies, etc., one's mind is being artificially stimulated and is being robbed of boredom - which is a necessary stimulus for creativity and action which, in turn, is a genuine source of fulfillment. The buzzing activity on social media becomes a substitute for one's life, becoming a drug from which they get a high and keep coming back for more, only to, later on, regret what a waste of time it all was. Life is much more productive and fulfilling when one abstains from social media.
Worst of all, it inhibits personal growth because, by establishing clout, you become invested in that clout. That clout is your primary resource for validation. You become fearful of alienating your followers so you self-censor and pander towards their biases. You become reluctant to challenge the beliefs upon which your brand has been built. The emotional cost of losing the social standing you have established for yourself is not worth going off on a tangent and entering new ideological or philosophical territory. What you own ends up owning you. It might be the case that people with clout may be more deserving of pity than of envy.

Actually, unless this site counts as social media, I have never been on social media.
In fact, my phone is a flip phone - I can already see my girlfriend rolling her eyes, but she loves me - and they will take it out of my cold dead hands.
Indeed, I would not even have a flip phone except that a family member thought to assist me back in the day when I was starting my consulting business and bought it for me as gift. I would not speak to her for a month until she apologized.
The - for lack of a better term - portable phone is an offense against all that is holy and decent. It is like a mailman who comes barging into your house, shoves your mail in your face, demands that you open it and who then stands there impatiently tapping his foot while you read it.
Ellen Glasgow said, "All change is not progress as all movement is not forward." I offer the phone as Exhibit A for that case. I therefore will stop at the flip phone and go no further. Never will I handle an "I-phone" except with thumb and forefinger as one might handle a dead carp.
Beyond that, I have never laid eyes on a Facebook page, my children get sent to their rooms without dessert for saying the word "tweet," and indeed, I subscribe to the dictum that gentlemen do not tweet. Never have, never will.
Suffice to say, I don't have very strong opinions on this. As you can tell.
I didn't "quit" per se, just privated everything and left it at that. Haven't posted anything for a loooong time anyway. But I still need the messengers to get in contact with people and the apps to scroll through memes when I'm bored.
You just have to go all in and delete them! Deactivate the accounts and delete the apps from your phone

I post way less than I used to when I was in high school. In 12th grade, the number of followers didn't matter as much as my friends did. Did I quit Social Media all together? no, but I do post way less than I used. I have more important things to focus on like college classes and friends.
Not completely I need it for study and job.
Feeding social media with private things makes you very transparent for othersPretty much. I haven't uploaded to my personal Instagram in sooo long. I prefer to only upload piano covers now. And even those are getting scarce.
Me too. I feel you too. I think you can quit for relax and rest your mind, if you feel mess and know overload content topic too much from the media online.
Im sure you gotta feel better and be fine😊I do it sometimes, I just turn off my instagram and facebook and just don't use them.
The only reason I ever open social media is to message people who I don't know well enough to have their phone number.
I haven't yet but Im starting to think it might be a good idea.
I have for few weeks at a time and yeah felt better
Face book. I just didn't like it, the petty silly stuff I got. Even when I was on the private setting...
