Haven't used Facebook in years, recieved email saying I'm back on facebook and it had all my phone contacts as suggestions. How did that happen?

Facebook, Apple, Amazon, and Google all spy on their user base; collecting meta data. They then share and sell that data to other companies. They use convenience to breed apathy into their users; so they go along with it. Just remember that every time you click I Accept you are complicit in their monitoring activities.

But I've seen some quite disturbing things happen when I loaded Skype on my phone. It automatically synced all my phone contacts onto Skype, which is pretty shitty if you ask me.

Did you by any chance sign up on a website an accidentally clicked on FB to sign up/log in?
Otherwise, I am not sure. Have a look at the bottom of that email and see if it says something along the lines of like "This is a promotional email". If so, I wouldn't worry about it.

Not a promotional page, I'm a bit worried because maybe I was hacked then

I’d just delete your fb entirely if it makes you feel safer.

My brother is the same! He knows how unsafe FB is, so dumped it about 5 or 6 years ago. His account was scheduled for total deletion. He now thinks it never was deleted as he gets emails saying his account has been updated.
