Do you know your typing speed?

There are many typing test sites, but the most recent one I’ve used is http://monkey type. com

My overall best so far seems to be 72 wpm with a 98% accuracy. I’m a writer so I do type a lot, but my average speed is closer to 50 wpm.

When I first started typing in high school, it was something like one word every 8 weeks.
To this day, I've never been able to type with both hands. I only use one and actually type pretty fast with it! I started out just typing via the hunt & peck method but, once I got used to where the keys are, my speed picked up and I started using more than just one finger. (Shortly after I got my first desktop computer and spent lots of time using it, I was even typing in my dreams! Anything anyone said in my dreams, I could see myself typing out and could even tell myself that that letter is NOT in that location on the keyboard!!)
For the most part, I just use 2 fingers but, I'll toss in one of the other 3 if needed for certain "functions". Like, if I want to type the word, "point", I use the first three to hit the "poi" in practically one stroke. Pinky usually hits the shift key, or the letter if the index uses the left shift key. Thumb comes into play, but not very often. If I have to type "ol.", index hits the O and just slides right down to. hitting all three keys in one shot.
As for testing how fast I am. I know of no way to do that by myself but, I'll try, and, as for accuracy, NEVER on THIS shitty keyboard!! I'll type something in a few seconds and then have to go back and spend at least that much time editing out all the mistakes it made!! Missing letters, double letter, the shift key refusing to work, etc.. SOMETIMES the doubles are my fault because, if a word HAS a double letter, I find myself typing a double, but it's the letter BEFORE the one I WANTED doubled! And, as a few years ago, for SOME bizarre reason, I've been doing shit like: if I want to type the word, "here", I end up typing "hear"! Or, I'm CONSTANTLY typing "my" instead of "me", or vice versa!! No idea why!! Or, as in just a moment ago, I typed a word with the letter "a" in the middle of it and, when I looked at what I typed to get rid of the mistakes, instead of an "a", there was an "=" in it's place!! HOW THE FUCK DID THAT GET THERE? "A" is on the OTHER END of the keyboard from "="!!!
Well, I just tried to time myself and, not counting the mistakes the keyboard made and factoring in a rough count of how many times I hit the back space (about 8), I just typed, roughly, 230 letters per minute and that's not really even top speed. I had to think about some of what I was writing which cost me a few seconds. Anyway, that's almost 4 letters a second with just 2 or 3 fingers on one hand. As they tend to count 4 letters as one word when gauging typing speed, I guess that gives me a roundabout speed of 57 words a minute. Maybe faster, if I know, ahead of time, exactly what I'm typing.

I tried the monkey type and got 44 wpm at 98%. This was typing random words, though. I can type about 60-65+ if I am simply typing what I am thinking and there is some logic to the order of the words.
This is also using aftermarket computer keyboards which have very "bouncy" keys. When I type a series of keys very quickly, I will sometimes end up with the first letter I typed, then the second, and then a second hit of the first letter since it "bounced". I did a lot better on IBM Selectrics when I worked in the corporate world ages ago. I originally learned on my mom's Underwood #5. Quite a difference in the touches.

Underwood No 5. Great for developing strong fingers! And, they work during power failures.

My typing speed is 72 by default. I can type faster than that, at about 80 or 85 with pretty good accuracy, but that is sans the top row, aka numbers and symbols. I just never focused on them in my typing class way back in elementary because I was mostly typing for school and English papers so I cannot really touch type the top row. By the way, you haven't lived until you play "Typer Shark!" I still play on occasion. It's a great way to practice your skills.

I used to be an extremely fast typer but with increasing errors when I got older, I decided to slow down my speed so typing without errors, I probably cover 200-400 words in 8-10 minutes, but that is only if I know my topic and don’t have to stop to think.

I don't know my typing speed. (Something might come out in the 80's if I had to guess) but I'm super fast at typing with two fingers instead of ten. And these types of keyboard also helps a lot in typing fast. I can never type fast on the Q keyboard. I prefer the F keyboard.

My average is 55 to 60, top speed is 80+ with perfect accuracy. I wouldn't want to do it all day, though. I type essays and computer programs with enough speed to impress my friends.
